Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

What can I say, that is not tell, great aroma and flavor, especially with habano (cuban cigar)
I enjoyed it as let's not be to harsh, it taste good/ok, but compare to some other rum.. I can't even really define a clear aroma in the nose or taste, it is just too sweet to clearly feel anything special.
I just started to get involved in Rum culture but i can say that this one is really good rum (tried roughly 20 varieties so far).
Fresh Veal Fillet Steak with Foie Gras and Pedro Ximenez Sauce + a glass of Ron Zacapa 23 Solera is absolute joy for your taste buds!
Zacapa is not the same as it used to be. It used to be a good rum when production was smaller. Now its just a comercial product with a bunch of sugar added. Rum is not supposed to taste that sweet, only by adding extra sugar. Also 23 is not years, its just name of the brand. The rum is not aged close to 23 years that why they got sued and had to take away the "years" part. I would rather spend my money in other rums that are real and dont have caramel coloring and sugar added to make it taste better.
The Zacapa 23 years solera system is cleary well known in many place in the world. It has a nice dark amber color and looks thick when served in the glass. Legs are long and thick which confirm there is a lot of sugar in this rum. The taste is nice, you have some fruity aromas most probably due to the aging of a part of the rum in Sherries barrels. The caramel and sugar taste is really too present for me. Nice but clearly not perfect. I have rate this rum with a 8 but it should be 7.5 for the added sugar.
This rum is probably at the same level as Zafra 21, but it doesn't have the burn, the whiskey, and the long fragrant finish of the Zafra 21, but Ron Zacapa 23 is sweeter. This, coupled with the rich (yet subtle) rum flavors, the French oak notes, and the absence of burn, gives it a luxurious feeling in the mouth. Smooth rum with subtle richness.
Very good rum. My first premium rum I tasted.
But I think there are many better and cheaper rums. Zacapa have very good marketing but don´t have the best rum.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Sucré mais pas lourd, bon, agréable. Toutefois pas exceptionnel. Gagnerait à être un peu plus complexe, surtout pour le prix; un peu cher pour ce qu'il offre.
Sweet but not heavy, good, nice. However not exceptional. Would be a little more complex, especially for the price; A bit pricey for what it offers.
