Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

ligeramente dulce, se aprecia el cherry y suave madera, ligero al paladar, interesante probarlo.
I like this one. It is the first i had without coke and it made me a rum fan.
Several years back, a friend and neighbor had been talking of his Ron Zacapa 23, giving it high praise. I had to make the step beyond the cheap rum mixed with a variety of other ingredients to make a smooth, palatable drink.
The first difference was the sweet aroma, still the detectable essence of molasses and vanilla. I consumed it mostly neat. Now, in my later years, I like to add an ice cube to add to the smoothness.
Guatemala knows rum.
A dark and relatively full bodied rum with a fairly rounded taste. Not as balanced as it could have been. Lacks a litte sweetness for balance from my point of view, leaving the result a bit too sharp in taste from the dominance of the alcohol over sweetness. It is a minor imbalance, though, and the rum is quite enjoyable when at around body temperature.
The price point is too high in my country for what this rum is, but a decent rum all the same.
Zacapa is the perfect for the sweet tooth (extra sugar was added in). its great as a sipper or a mixer. personally i like it with a couple icecups maybe some bitters.
solid beginner rum too to show to friends.
This is the first rum I've had that I could actually drink straight. Good stuff!
Dejlig varm og fyldig god efter smag
Altid et godt valg til gæsterne
I just love this ron. He is sweet, tasty and the perfect ron for a relaxed evening...
This rum is very good, smooth but just slightly too sweet. It is one of my go to's
Even tho the price is a bit high here in Québec, it is worth every penny. Smooth and long lasting flavor paired with a finale of sweet aromas.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

After reading some of the reviews on this rum relating to the actual age of the rum and a few people mentioning artificial flavours and colours I was very sceptical. After trying this I actually thought it was very good. The long flavour is sweet but in a smooth way, with flavours of honey and caramel. I'm usually the first to disregard a rum for being too sweet but I love this stuff.
