Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

rather one of my favorites due to the sweeter character, but i wonder if it's from addition of sugars as the sweetness doesn't seem to come from natural distilled liquid affected by oak aging.

still a commendable flavor profile.

it was even better when the price was lesser than now days as it seems Diageo has increased prices too frequently to make this less attractive for my wallet/palate preference ratio.

in conclusion, if you care not for price history and prefer sweeter profile, a good choice.

if you are very experienced and well versed in rum, steer clear!
if you are new to rum experience, do invest for tasting!

OK, to be clear, I mixed my rums with Diet Dr. Pepper. It's just how I like my rum. Zacapa was my first introduction to the real rum world (outside of Bacardi and Captain Morgans 1.75L typical offerings. I loved it and still do. The flavor is vanilla, molasses, and fruity. I would put this is the more sweet side by just a little bit. It is not a sugary sweet rum, but it has a perfectly blended "natural" sweetness to each and the complex flavors offer one or two changes as you enjoy it. It is not a Clement 6 that changes every sip in a good way, but it is not a Captain Morgan Reserve that is the same all the way through the drink. I have 9 bottles of this in my cabinet, yes 9 in reserve. It is likely my go to rum when I want something fine, yet not over the top.

This is a very sweet spirit.
Here is the only rum that girls drink neat because of its sweetness.
I believe that there are better rums, but in its style is a good one.
The power of great companies: in Italy this is the only 25+ € rum available in every supermarket or mall, and this makes it very popular as a "top shelf spirit".
Without being rum nerds too much, this is an enjoyable "suave" style rum.
Maybe a little overpriced.

The new Zacapa 23 Blend is tougher and less sweet than the blends before 2012. I find it less balanced too. But my brother prefers the new one, i prefer the old one, but everybody likes Zacapa.

Jeden z prvních opravdových rumů, které jsem ochutnal. Má pevné místo v mém baru.

This is a nice beginners sipping rum. Not too woody, not too much alcohol bite on the finish and a huge helping of sweet to comfort those new to sipping rums.
It has a really oily legs, a deep mahogany color. Baking spices, vanilla, molasses and a bit of esters in the nose. The palette has more of that deep molasses, vanilla and stone fruit. Fig, dates and raisins give this a deep flavor. Overall, this a sweet rum. It is not overly oaky and woody. The finish is medium to short with little burn. You're left with a pleasant molasses and spice after taste. A very nice rum, but there are better overall that aren't overly sweetened.

Rhum doux et facile à boire. Sans doute y a-t-il du sucre ajouté, mais ça ne me dérange pas trop dans ce rhum.

Really nice for sipping, sweet and smooth. Another that hides the alcohol flavor a bit, if you like that you'll love this rum. Good complexity and plenty of taste to be experienced.

Chuť príjemná a ľahká bez zbytočnej chuti alkoholu. Dobre sa k nemu hodí kvalitná horká čokoláda. Vôňa príjemná a ľahká.
Za mňa osobne by som od naj rumu očakával niečo viac preto dávam 8.
