Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

It used to be my favorite when I started siping, and still is my go to when on the road, as it is widely available.
A little bit on the sweet side, but is the perfect point of entry for anyone
Really good rum to start with. A must for novices.
A very sweet and subtle rum. My personal favorite.
taste is good and well balanced. I think a lot of added sugar, made for "mainstream". Missed an own character or something unique that makes it special. For this price you can get way better ones in my opinion.
But...tastes are different
It was an disapoitment, everyone says, that is allmost the best, but NOT. to be 50% cheaper, than it is OK. Not Bad, but too sweet. I wonder how much of 23 YO rum is in it 1l in barel?
Not as overrated as a Dictador 20 but it is near... Especially the price is a bit higher than it recomends for a rum at this quality. Sweet, spicy, lot of vanilla and caramel, but that describes 30% of the so called "sipping" rums I have tasted...
Great rum! For me, taste best, when added small ice cube.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Comment faire un rhum consensuel et qui saura plaire à la majorité. Au final peu de caractère mais une valeur sure.
