Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Over ice and smallest splash of Pepsi! This is one of my go-to Rums.

Smaken รคr god, men spritig. Den ligger ungefรคr i samma prisklass som Diplomรกtico Reserva Exclusiva och Plantation 20th Anniversary XO men den nรฅr inte riktigt upp till dem.

At the first sip I took of this I was blown away. After sipping about half the bottle I was a little let down.It got pretty boring. This is an excellent rum for beginners as it's easy to drink. It reminds me of diplomatico reserva but it's not quite as rich.Satisfied that I finally tried this I probably won't repurchase.Priced at $44.99 here at my local liquor store vs $29.99 for Diplomatico.I'll stick with the Diplomatico.

Edit: After trying this on the rocks I change my rating to an 7.5 it's definetly better on the rocks imo.

Nice round flavour, long aftertaste. To the price itโ€™s a very good rum.

It is a good rum nevertheless but in my opinion not a memorable one.
I always enjoy drinking it but I cannot say that I find my self craving to taste it after a period of absence as I feel with some other runs.

A sweet rum smooth as they come nice in coffee and hot chocolate or just to sip. Zacapa 23 solera has fruity note's and sweet right through to the finish not as sweet as some I've had, 'diplomatico' for one but definitely worth a try.

Zacapa 23 Solero is a solid choice, but IMHO it's worth saving up for the XO, which is far more interesting on the palate. Both are relatively sweet, so if you're a whiskey lover, I'd say probably don't get the 23 at all. OTOH, if you like your rum sweet, than this is definitely an affordable alternative to the XO. Still, if you can splurge a little, treat yourself to the Zacapa XO. It really is a couple of levels above the Solero as a drinking experience.
