Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled from fresh cane juice before aging at 7544 feet at 62 °F (17 °C).
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.
Nice taste but way too sweet to deserve a better rating.
First, I do not know enough of Rum - yet!
So for me it is all about taste and this is smooth, not so sweet and good!
Love this Guatemalan rum. Nice bite, not too sweet.
My opinion its very overrated, tastes like sugar mixed with spirit
TL/DR - fine for the price, let it breathe for a while before drinking.
Nice notes of mahogany, tobacco, brown sugar and vanilla. I had this neat and also smoked with applewood. Both were great.
But for the price, I'd go with the much smoother Plantation XO. Z 23 is a nice alternative though.
A fine rum, although a bit pricey in comparison to the quality
A bit lighter bodied than expected, and a bit more burn. That said, a cube of ice to cut it brings out flavor, or at least my ability to perceive it. Worth trying for sure, and many rate it more highly. Perhaps I am finding my favorite profiles though.
Real top quality rum. Ideal to drink with just 1 medium sized ice cube. Doesn’t have a strong alcohol burn which makes it real easy to drink.
Comes into its own when made with a rum old fashioned.
Great smell and taste, smooth aftermath. Absolutely a wonderful premium rum.
Great in a dark and stormy for a sweeter more aromatic tipple
Nothing special for this price... This product is only a hype...
Not the one I prefer. I think it's a little bit to sweet. But it's a Nice sipping rum.
The first time I tried this rum was this summer, 40th bday trip to Costa Rica with 3 best friends. I’ve been curious for years but too cheap to splurge, my buddy picked up a bottle in the duty free. One of the best days of my life- the 4 of us back in the pool at the inn after surfing perfection and we had the pool to ourselves so we played some good tunes and cannonballed the entire bottle in the pool. Just had a second go round over the weekend. Broke out a bottle for a party we threw. This is some smooth stuff. Sipped it neat out of snifters- velvety buttery texture with caramel toffee taste. I like sweeter rums and I don’t typically drink alcohols straight up, but when I do... this is on the list
Rund, weich aber ohne Körper. Im Abgang nichtssagend. Für den Preis leider nicht angemessen.
Zu wenig Süße und vollmundig um diesen Preis. Farbe ist sehr sehr schön, aber es fehlt die Eleganz...
This stuff is a shadow of its former self. Now its an abysmal mash of sugar and sweetness. Not really justified by the price tag as far as I'm concerned, far better alternatives to choose from that are of better quality and less hype.
Great rhum to get into rhum in general. It’s easy to drink and to enjoy.
Got this as a gift. Label is deceiving like other people have pointed out. Not aged 23 yr
Too sweet for my tastes. Like to drink good rums straight or on ice. Kinda gave me a headache. Friends who bought it really like it
Not sure about the other additives They added,
Have to try other zacapa rums
When you drink the Zacapa 23 Solera you know what you get. We are, IMHO, in a similar league than the Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, although the Zacapa could be a bit more expensive depending on the country. Definitely worth trying, especially as it is usually easier to find than other similar level rums.
Like this rum. Drink this in Czech Republic and you dont pay anything😀
Liked it neat. Lots of taste without being overpowering
Bit tasteless, diplomatico kills it, lacks punch, smooth palette
With virgin sugarcane honey and aged above the clouds, this rum has a distinct dark amber color and really smooth yet aromatic notes.
Best had neat or with one ice cube
Give it a swirl and let the flavours explode in your palate.
