Foursquare's understanding of how to use and reuse barrels is without company in the rum world and this is yet another that leads me to this conclusion. Dark red fruits and sweetness without being sweetened.

I’m pretty new to rum and maybe I just wasn’t ready to take on Foursquare but I was pretty unimpressed by this bottle. While I know it is a very high proof I felt the burn outweighed the flavor even with an ice cube or 2, especially for the price. The bottle did grow on me once it opened up but it was in my cabinet for awhile. Given their reputation I’ll be checking out more offerings from here however.

Tasted side by side with 2008. A bit more dry in aftertaste and the 2008 is slightly better in overall. But it is really really good!

A bit hot, but after you let it sit for a bit, the oak, vanilla, caramel, and tobacco come together into something wonderful. Salty and briney in a wonderful way. Butter notes, but not overly thick, particularly as compared to the 2008.

Dominated by the bourbon barrel which is both advantage and disatvantage of this rum. It needs a lot of time and some of understanding 'the stuff' to appreciate this particular Foursquare. Moreover, it is more dry than you can imagine. Opens very well with an addition of water.

For me, the worst Foursquare I have drank lately, but still worth of trying. Discovering its ups and downs is really good adventure.

Holds up great compared to any other cask strength spirit aged ~12 years. Must-buy if you like high ABV.

I’ve been exposed to Barbados rum early on. Between this and Appleton Estate products, I have been spoiled. Sugared rums are still enjoyable, but when you consider all the amazing flavors of unsweetened rums, it’s astounding how proper aging can pull flavors.

It’s much more subtle than sugared rums, but at 59%, it’s anything but subtle. Similar to RL Seales 10 year but with more punch.

Hints of sugar cane, molasses and a sweet lingering finish make this one of my new favorite rums.

Foursquare manage full flavor, spicy, sweet and smooth all at the same time, without the cloying effects of lots of sugar. A rum you can drink all day, provided you’re a man!

Was fortunate to find 3 different bottles of Foursquare in FL, expensive, but have always admired the brand. This bottle like the 2005 is high proof & you realize it when it hits the nose. Nice scent of light fruit, honey & caramel. Slight burn across the tongue, but terrific taste. Notes of more caramel & toffee across the palette, finishes strong with honey. My initial thought is that I prefer this bottle vs the 2005.
