Another great 1997 continental Caroni

The Cadenheads 1997 Trinidad Caroni has the Mark HTR and was allowed to store 20 years continental in oak barrels. The Single Cask Rum was bottled in a cask strength of 60.6% alcohol without dyes, sugar or filtration.
The rum opens for the nose quite early and has typical 1997 Caroni aromas. A beautiful blend of ripe tropical fruit with wood, caramel, smoke and dirt. Solvents and rubber are included. There is a lot to discover in the nose. The aromas are quite balanced. On the palate, the rum is strong and spicy. The fruit has now more caramel and the wood is present. Pepper and dirty tar flavors come after that. But here, too, quite balanced. The alcohol looks well integrated. In the end, the rum becomes drier and woody. Caroni is clearly to taste here.
A very tasty rum and great caroni. In a direct comparison, however, I find the Bristol Classic bottling from 1997 much better. The Bristol has much more of this beautiful dirty notes and the ashtray feeling. Therefore, I would stay with my Bristol Caronis.
