Serious improvement needed
Rum tasting in Amsterdam continued with Ron Palido Montero Gran Reserva. Nice old school bottle and label design. Bright golden color. Strong oak and vanilla straight to your nose and palate when neat sipped. Strong and dry burn at the end. Definitely a mixer rum. Only marginally better than Ron Palido Montero.
Don’t buy it.
It has a weird ”yellow beer color” and the taste is a mixture of rum, whiskey and solvent.
It can perhaps be used as drink rum but I have used it in bbq marinade.
I received a bottle of this from my brother who visited spain and with its 50 year anniversary, I had moderate hopes. However, I poured myself a serving in a snifter glass and found the only way to drink it was to hold my breath when I took a sip. The alcohol burned my nose and made it difficult to smell much of anything. On the palette, it was mildly sweet, with a tobacco taste and a smoky finish. I wouldn't call the flavor BAD, however it could use a little work. The over powering alcohol took much of what was good however and made it hardly enjoyable.
And the taste doesn´t make it better.. The closest thing i have tasted to this is Club Havanna white rum. So if you have a bottle of this and want to finish it. I would say that you shall bring on the ice and the ginger beer.
