Centenario 20-Year

Picked up a bottle of this tonight. First time trying Ron Centenario as it's always a few $s more than others in similar class. But wow...it's good. Tad on the sweet side. But just delicious. Tried neat + on the rocks, but I think the best way will be to chill bottle in the freezer and drink neat / frozen glass. The flavors are a tad spicy on the aftertaste + complex and ice takes a bit of that away. But this is some darn good rum. Will spend the $ and try the 25 yr next.

Una delicia, mucha suavidad y mucho chocolate. En el paladar no quema ni un poquito. Una dulzura bien lograda.

I really prefer sweet rums and this is definitely one of my favorites! Ufff can't even recall how much bottles I already demolished!

The 20 year old is a very good rum, and just made me to try the other centenarios.

Nice, clean rum with vanilla and caramel notes, very fresh and balanced.

Vlami chutny jemny prijemny rum. Hodi sa na vecerne popijanie.

it would be perfect, just a pity that the aftertaste vanishes pretty quickly.

This rum is very sweet, but comes with nice bouquet of aromes.
Nose: Vanilla, sweet fruits like red berries, peach, raisins.
Palate: mild red berries, baked plums and super sweetness.
Finish: plums, buttery sweetness. Later some oak.
Good for a tasting, wouldn't use it for mixing.

Very good rum, I enjoyed drinking it, but we've had a Riise time for past few months, and I have to say that I prefer Riise more now. Centenario is less sweet with less interesting tastes - which is certainly something many people would prefer.

Eye:
Dark, mahogany. Moderate tear in the cup

Nose 1:
Not too much alcohol perceived, definitely sugar cane notes, honey, do not smell much wood but if there is a memory of it. Very similar to the Zacapa 23, but thinner, less alcoholic punch in the nose.

Taste #1 pure:
Something creamy, slightly burning but decreases rapidly as soon as you hold in your mouth, it does not burn in the throat and has a bitterness in the end, however has a memory of tasty honeys sugar and bitter cocoa would say.

Then nose a little water:
Water fades a little bit the perceived earlier, a slight odor memory of sugar honeys.

Taste #2 with little mineral water.
By lowering the alcohol, not any burning present in your mouth, completely smoothness.
Still tastes of chocolate, the memory of the concentration of honeys have lost some

Recommendation: to take straight in the glass or add a solid big ice cube, lowering a little alcohol if you prefer, but mostly pure is better choice.

The product is rich, smooth, however the complexity is higher in products such as "Dos maderas" from Spain or "flor de caña 18" from Nicaragua.

As it is a rum to enjoy and share, in the market there are similar profiles such as Cartavio 12 years from Peru (slightly less smooth) and Ron Zacapa 23 from Guatemala.
