The color of this rum is a rich mahogany by way of deep dark amber. Delightful aroma revealing a sweetness to it.

Tasting it reveals it to be sweet. Very sweet. I haven't tested it scientifically but it tastes as if there has been sugar or some sweetening agent added to this rum. And that's a shame. It just seems a tad too sweet and thus I deduct a point. Otherwise this would have been a solid 8...perhaps a 9. However this does not make it a BAD rum. Just a little too sweet for my personal tastes. Take it for what it's worth. It does qualify as a sipping rum HOWEVER I would consider it one to have as an after-dinner treat. A dessert rum if you will.

NOTE: I rated the Ron Centenario 25-year a "9" and still am of the opinion that it is a great rum but the 20-year seems sweeter to me. I realize that sometimes rums will vary from batch to batch and perhaps my 20 came from a batch that was sweeter than intended.

On an aside, this might be a good rum to use in rum balls. I haven't tried it but it seems to be well suited for such a purpose.

The sweetness seems to be aimed at the American consumer. If sugar or some sweetening agent were indeed added, I wonder what it would have tasted like without it.

With the 20th version, I started with the Centenario edition, and I will probably end up with it. It is one of the three most popular. I also tried the 25y version and it wants to ventilate a bit, it's more demanding. 20y just makes me more fun.

A great Ron from Costa Rica.

The nose: we can smell caramel and vanilla with a slight oakiness.

On the palate, it is smooth and even sweet.
The caramel and vanilla come back and the wood is a little more present than on the nose and light touches of coffee appear.

The finish is again on the combination of caramel and vanilla.
This is a smooth and sweet Ron, easy to drink and very fragrant. The perfect sipper!!!
I find it delicious and I recommend it.
Even if the price is a bit high in my opinion, like all those Ron Premiums.

I like sweeter rums, this one was the best so far, much sweeter than Diplomatico GR

Very good rum, I enjoyed drinking it, but we've had a Riise time for past few months, and I have to say that I prefer Riise more now. Centenario is less sweet with less interesting tastes - which is certainly something many people would prefer.

Nice, clean rum with vanilla and caramel notes, very fresh and balanced.

Imported from Costa Rica.

This is a slightly sweet and Uber smooth rum that is meant for a beach, cigar, and a sunset. Easy drinking life.
