Beautiful caramel color, strong aroma, wonderful molasses and caramel finish.
Love the smell and taste. It is sweet but also with hints of spices. You definitely taste toffee, caramel and vanilla. You should give this one a go.
The evaluation here did not allow me not to try this rum. We got used to each other for a while and in the end I have to admit that it is a really mature rum after all those malt houses. At the same time, it is still sweet and therefore belongs to the category of my favorites. Beautiful box and bottle, really a gem of the collection and a nice change, compared to the others. I recommend.
ZdejΕ‘Γ hodnocenΓ mi nedalo, abych tento rum nevyzkouΕ‘el. ChvΓli jsme si na sebe zvykali a nakonec musΓm uznat, ΕΎe je to po vΕ‘ech tΔch slaΔΓ‘rnΓ‘ch opravdu dospΔlΓ½ rum. AkorΓ‘t na mΔ uΕΎ je to moc. KrΓ‘snΓ‘ krabice i lΓ‘hev s gravΓrovanΓ½mi popisky, opravdu klenot sbΓrky a pΕΓjemnΓ‘ zmΔna.
El primer ron XO del Peru nunca te va a decepcionar, vainilla, chocolate, caramelo, un ron suave, aterciopelado, de dulzor medio.
Relatively sweet yet burny Peruvian rum. Sadly smells like Bumbu spiced (yet better), which is perhaps the only rum I have ever vomited after drinking it (long story but basically truthful), -1 for that. If you dont know Bumbu rum, think Marama from Fiji. ___ The taste: spices, sherry, cinnamon and perhaps vanilla and/or honey. Feels half-way to "spiced rum". The packing is reasonably classy but not so fancy to regret opening. Overall a good rum but from Peruvian ones still arguably #3 only I tasted so far (both Millonario and especially Vizcaya are better choices). It is still recommendable, though. Peru, what a country for rum fans! ___ EDIT: gets better and better, easy sipper and everyone seem to like it. [7,5/10]
I like the taste of this one. Sweet taste and one of the best i have had.
This is right up my alley. Iβve always been a big fan of the Cartavio rums and this one just solidified that even more. Deep, rich caramel color. The nose includes caramel, vanilla, spices. The flavor is an explosion of same as above with molasses. Smooth as silk on the finish with a favorable aftertaste of molasses and spice. Iβm making a point to always having a bottle of this on hand.
Yum. Smooth, chocolatey, not aggressive, lots to appreciate. Given to me by a mate who I'd helped with some legal paperwork, this was the first 'decent' rum I'd ever had. It ended up tempting me across the divide from the world of Single Malt Whiskey, and I'm now a true sipping rum convert.
Nice golden colour, beautiful bottle, very smooth with full flavour. One of my favourites.
Its quite floral and a little sickly smelling.
"There is a lot of sweet toffee and caramel on the nose. Hint of butterscotch. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Sorry...the large amount of sugaring ruins it for me.

I found this rum on a recent trip to Jacksonville and decided to mark one off my wish list.
Now I wish I hadn't bothered.
Apparently my opinion will be going against the grain here but this rum would be great if they hadn't sugared it so much.
Am I drinking rum or molasses with alcohol added?
This could almost be pancake syrup.
The syrupy sweetness is so overwhelming that it hides some elements and flavor profiles that would have made for a great rum.
But someone decided to ruin what could've been a great rum.
Forshame!
Paid way too much for this. Sad. My fault.
I forced myself to try to take extra sips and finally found some vanilla and toffee undertones to it along with some oak tannin. Even a hint of banana.
Beyond that, there's not much.
I read so many praises for this rum. Makes me wonder if I got a counterfeit because what I got sure ain't what others describe. Don't get me wrong...there are some sugared rums that I actually like but this one goes overboard. I cannot recommend it as a sipping rum unless you're into drinking syrup. I could see this being effectively used in drinks with an antithesis of sweetness such as coffee drinks or drinks using more bitters than the average. Any other suggestions? I cannot see this used in fruit-based drinks. The sugariness would be completely off the charts. And not in a good way.
My recommendation? Not worth the $65-70 price. Many better rums for half that.
