Botran Solera 1893 is a dark rum from Guatemala aged using the Solera method in casks that previously held sherry, port and bourbon.
Alkohol: 40 %
Chuť: Chuť je více do sucha, kořenitá, s kůží a dřevem, nic řídkého, docela bohatá. V dochuti je patrná mírná dřevitost a slabě i nahořklost. (84 b)
If you love rum, and chances are if you are reading this you do, this rum has great aroma and colour with a crisp rich aftertaste. It is however not the greatest value but certainly appealing with its strong aged-rum aftertaste.
Very pleasant solera rum. Mild with molasses character
About 5 to 10 years ago, I found a bottle of this rum in the old teardrop shape. Thinking that the liquor store would soon get more than just that one bottle, I did similar to what Tomy from Romania suggested years later with his bottle of the same shape. Yes, it was so smooth that I almost consumed it in one day like he said could easily happen, but it actually took two days for this fool to down. At that time, I liked it better than Eldorado 12, which is now my third rated rum. My top two were only found recently thanks to this website.
When I got my new bottle home, I was actually afraid to open it for quite a while. Did Zacapa change the formula? Was it totally different than what I remembered? I cautiously poured a snifter and let it breathe for about twenty minutes. The aroma is of alcohol and caramel. On the tongue, it is a slightly peppered burn with caramel. Going down the pipe is nothing nasty, but nothing memorable. This new version cannot even make it into my top ten thanks to the parent company Zacapa.
When I read many of the other reviews before trying to find it, I was wondering if this is the same rum that I remembered. Unfortunately, it is not! This bottle was also about $10 cheaper than that old bottle, which should have tipped me off right away. I just had to solve the mystery. It's tough being tenacious.
After letting the new bottle with only one snifter removed sit for a few hours, I poured another snifter and let it breathe for a while outside on a breezy day. The burn was gone. However it smelled almost like nothing and tasted almost like flavored water. Flavors going down the pipe are minimal. So once the burn is allowed to breathe off, there is really nothing there to encourage me from buying another bottle. Nothing offensive, but nothing to get excited about either. I would suggest this one to lovers of Don Q Gran Anejo since they are similar.
Doesn't like to be mixed. Over ice is my preferred method to taste, as it is quite sweet, and benefits from some water. Overall its nice, a good affordable rum to enjoy after dinner, for me.
Good rum tasting. Alcohol a little too present but interesting subtle aromas.
Only on the rocks!
Sweet taste with honey but still strong feeling of alcohol.
very smooth taste. vanilla and caramel. Easy to drink. very good price for this quality.
This is a great blend and I highly recommend this to anyone. The price point is amazing for this quality. Could easily drink an entire bottle of this in one sitting.
Nice, sweet, above average quality and easy to drink rum.
I've gotten this rum as a gift in a different bottle.
The rum has beautiful dark color. It needs some time in a glass to settle down its wild taste and scent.
This Botran is straight with mostly oak barrel scent and taste. Spices and vanilla appears as well.
Has a long ending that will keep you warm.
This is rather dry rum, and because I prefer sweeter rums, I'm giving it 6/10.
Little dry for my taste, little caramel - vanilla . Gong little stronger. Could be cheaper for this taste.
I got it from my wife and I really like it. Smooth and nice. A rum of my taste.
A fantastic rum, for me a good substitute for zacapa 23. Equal or very close. A must to Try.
Klasse!!!
Rather rough at some points but could be a good mixer but not a sipper.
This rum has a really good dark colour, almost a hint of red. Good legs in the glass, and a pleasant fruity, woody aroma on the nose, a hint of vanilla.
Its not too sweet for me, very smooth, little if any burn, a long aftertaste and leaves a warm feeling in the throat and chest.
Not sure if i would mix this one, but i can understand others who have and say it makes a good mixer.
Probably stick to 1 ice cube or a drop of water personally.
Very dark brown rum; but I am afraid, that is because of some color added. Smells of wood and alcool, tastes like wood and alcool. With time, it is slowly getting better - i.e. the alcool evaporates and there rests some caramel. To the end, it is even getting sweet in the nose, although on the tongue, there reste a great deal of wood.
Tasty, enjoyable rum that has a sweetness that affords this rum to be enjoyed neat. The fact that this rum was aged in the solera method using casks that were previously held by various spirits really works nicely in producing a wonderful flavor profile.
Sweet, smooth, spicy, lingering finish, little burn.
I really like this rum. I am getting lots of cinnamon on the nose and it has a great mouth feel for me. Sweet but not over sweet and slow long finish.
I would recommend this to my friends who want to get into rum tasting.
Not entirely my thing but very smooth. I did enjoy it.
Preislich ok.
