United States | Aged | 40% ABV

Bacardi 8-Year is a blended rum, filtered using the Bacardi-pioneered charcoal filtering system and aged for eight years.

This rum was not released to the public until 1995, when the first limited edition Bacardi 8 was sold with a sherry oak finish in a Baccarat crystal decanter. Despite a price tag of $400 per bottle, the rum was hugely popular and led to the larger release of the blend without the collectors' features and price.

I have to admit I did not have very high aspirations with this rum. After all, Bacardi tends to be lumped in with the cheaper rums just about every package store carries (along with Capt. Morgan and Malibu). However this rum is not all that bad. Not great, mind you, but when you are stuck in Podunk, U.S.A. in the backwoods of some rural part of the country and they only carry three brands of rum (I base this on personal experience), there may be a chance this rum will be sold. If so, then it's gotta be your choice since the other two brands suck in my humble opinion.

Granted, this isn't going to be a top-of-the-line rum by any stretch of the imagination. Take it for what it is...a mass produced aged rum lacking a lot of bells and whistles but containing a fairly high standard of quality. The aroma in the bottle has a bit of astringency about it but the flavor does not really represent that. Instead there is a noticeable oak flavor to it as well as some caramel and vanilla. Then there is a bit of spiciness to it. The burn isn't harsh so I consider it a fairly smooth rum. Overall it's a usable rum when nothing else better is available.

A good rum for it’s price. Not for sipping but very good in cuba libre.

I know it much more complex than the dark
but it Still servess as a mixer, although you could sip it on a hot day with ice.

Good for cocktails, not great... wouldn’t sip it... Good value for a basic rum.

Like anything involving the island of Cuba, I think politics plays a role in anything related to the island, not excluding rum.
I've read the reviews of Bacardi 8 and I think an inherent anti-Cuban exile bias plays a review.
I will state that I am a Cuban exile living overseas, and I have bought various variations of Havana Club while living outside the U.S.
I have tried Havana Club 7 años añejo as a sipping rum for my weekly Old Fashioned, and just purchased Bacardi 8, as my local supermarket had it discounted at half price.
After drinking Havana Club añejo 7 años for more than a year, I much prefer Bacardi 8 as a regular sipping rum.
I drink it with an ice cube, and it goes down smoother, with less burn, than Havana Club.
Sorry to dispel the naysayers. I know it's cooler to favor the brand that actually comes from the island.
But Bacardi carries on its heritage.
Viva Cuba Libre.

Unlike other reviewers I prefer this rum in a mixed drink rather than a sipper. Great for a tall rum and coke with lime.

Der teuerste, den ich aus dem Hause Bacardi probiert habe und auch der erste den man durchaus pur trinken kann. Trotzdem viel Luft nach oben.

interesting thing, have tried a lot of bacardi rum and it is still weak. Much better rums you can get. WE feel a lot oaf alcohol, karmel wit a bit of industrial taste, you can fell easily that two promos are separately. Don't know how they do it but bacardi is still bot good for me.
