Bacardi 8-Year is a blended rum, filtered using the Bacardi-pioneered charcoal filtering system and aged for eight years.
This rum was not released to the public until 1995, when the first limited edition Bacardi 8 was sold with a sherry oak finish in a Baccarat crystal decanter. Despite a price tag of $400 per bottle, the rum was hugely popular and led to the larger release of the blend without the collectors' features and price.
I had zero expectations and was truly surprised over Bacardi 8 year. I did taste against El Dorado 15 year and Ron Melacom 12 year and it was to my surprise delivering well. I paid 20 euros for it in Spain and sipping it on the terrace with see view, maybe it helped. Recommended to have for testing sessions,
At $49NZD this rum was unavoidable anymore. Presented in a professional copper canister, pouring presents an old oak coloring which gains my interest. Swirling delivers light, thin sticky legs, I'm thinking this could be good?! On the nose, I catch vanilla and settle on caramel, oak is delicate but recognizable. I am immediately reminded of port. All aromas are light and balanced. First sip and oak powers through (I wasn't expecting that!). It is bold at first and then other flavours present themselves. I am throughly pleased and pleasantly surprised! What is left behind is smokiness, quite peaty and something else is coming through? Maybe apricots right at the end. A light spiciness lingers also.
The Bacardi 8 is an experience I enjoyed. It's bold, well Oaked yet subtle aromas deliver a rum that doesn't quite make my sipper list but will live on in my memory as my most surprising. It's worth a go just to experience!
Smoky, Woody almost Scotch. Not big different from Bacardi Reserva.
Very pleasant as a sipping rum. Good aroma, sweet taste with no other aftertaste. Based on price this is a top mixer on my list. Tried it with some of the classic recipes such as Rum Old Fashioned with excelent results.
Full, soft and smooth flavors. A little smoky and woody Not sharp or strong. Really surprised of this rum.
its not a bad rum for me its a mix drink rum and nothing else
This is so far removed from Bacardi Superior as its possible to be ! My favourite rum to have with a good make of cola (Theres plenty if you look around) This is great value for money and very well made ! Dont buy their cheap stuff but invest another $20 in a bottle of the 8 , you wont regret it !
For an aged rum it's just ok. I prefer the Flor de Caña 7 any day.
I had the opportunity to sample Bacardi 8. Not a bad rum considering the price range. Color is light amber. Aroma shows notes of vanilla. The legs are not long. Tasting reveals vanilla and butterscotch. Mild after burn with a short finish. I think it is ok neat but could make a superb coctail rum.
Maybe my taste buds are of the charts, but this rum is one of the worst ive had. both neat and with cola it sucks
I usualy never drink Bacardi but this one was a very good surprise. Very smooth...
I always thought that was a mark made bacardi "for everyone." I was surprised while tasting the rum 8 years! I found it excellent, it does not attack the mouth. The oak and sugar/caramel flavor tastes good. It has a good smell of vanilla, but not very strong. This rum is one of my favorite for now.
I find it difficult to like Bacardi, but this one is not bad.
Shines in rum and cokes even against more "well regarded" rums, especially at this price point.
IMO, this is much better the Bacardi Anjeo, it has good flavor, a longer finish, deeper color and richness. A pretty good rum for sipping, it will perk your desire to drink better rums, not a bad thing!
Nice sweet / smooth bacardi, one of my bacardi favourites!
Herkomst: Puerto Rico
The aroma has notes of vanilla, molasse and alcohol. The palette is slightly sweet with clear notes of vanilla and a funky barrel taste, but not in a good way. The aftertaste is long and spicy, but feels artificial. I made the mistanke drinking this neat, and to me it's absolutely not a sipper, but perhaps i had a pour from a bad batch. It was not good.
at least compared to the superior white rum, which is simply horrible
This is one of the cleanest rums i have ever tasted.. It´s not thick, not strong, not light and have none special notes.. It´s the most average rum i have ever tried. When i think of rum.. This is probably the taste.. I will not regret this buy..
Who knew Bacardi had a rum like this in their stable? This is a nice versatile rum that mixes well, adds flavor and variety to any cocktail, and is not a bad on the rocks sipper. Well done for what it is supposed to be.
edited to add sugar test results- 12-20g
