Abuelo Anejo rum

Abuelo Anejo

Panama | Gold | 40% ABV

All great stories have an inspirational beginning, the same as Añejo has been for Ron Abuelo. It’s our youngest rum, both in age and spirit. Añejo is a fun and enjoyable first impression to our Panamanian rum making tradition. Where all the great stories begin.

First this is a 7.5 in my book.
Drinking neat isn't the best idea because it is somewhat harsh upfront, but not harsh in a terrible front to back way like Bacardi Gold. It gives a little sting and heat so I can see someone enjoying it neat for this unique trait. Smelling it you get a large amount of cask smell followed by some vanilla and alcohol. Drinking it cola is similar to Brugal's line, large amount of cask taste and light alcohol in background. Very good in cola would recommend in it especially at 10$ a bottle.
Notes
-Stinging upfront bite when drank neat, not too bad can be enjoyable.
-10$ a bottle cant go wrong
-One of those "woodsy" rums both smelling and taste. Similar to Brugal Rum
-Very good in cola

Traditional taste, quite a smooth rum. Good value for money.

I tried this on a friends suggestion. I was surprised how nice this was. I think that this is one of the best bottles under $15

Tasted at Laka Lono on 7/25/19. Aged 3 years. Honey Molasses aroma. Vanilla, smooth palate. Thin finish. Residual chocolate in the mouth. A very nice rum for the price. Re-tasted 1/8/23: light amber. Vanilla notes to aroma. A strong woody vanilla flavor. Some marshmallow. After 3 drops, spiciness emerges.

If you don't mind: if there are just 14 mountains 8000+ then there could be top 14 extraordinary brands/sources/styles of rum. Definitely, one of them is Abuelo/Panama peak of the Joy.

Anejo:
Banana mamma on the nose; rotten fruits, licorice and Indian spice kick. Could the best of all Anejos.

Two Oaks:
Just great, phenomenal. A bit tart what is rare. Perfectly balanced. Oak is hidden/transformed into something new. Less sweet compared to XV Oloroso, more smooth than 12yo.

Mírně sladký s dlouhým koncem s příchutí vanilky, karamelu a koření. Dobrý do míchaček i k samotnému pití. Konec je ostřejší.

abv 32,4% (label 40%), additives 27 grams per litre (source: drecon.dk), ok for a rum & cola, for sure it s not a sipper ...

Suprisingly good for the price, it feels still impossible to call it a good rum overall. Aftertaste is dry. Sometimes it developes a fruity note than it is flat and simple again. I will not buy it again.

It smells like a mix of gasoline and tequila but it tastes damn good! The flavor was delicious and semi-complex, it was sweet and it was as smooth as silk. There was no real burn of bite and it had a quick finish. It was great for some nice, smooth shots and for the price, it's a steal!
