Easy to drink, nothing to complain about, good value for the money

At first I had to double check the percentage as I thought I might have bought an overproof rum by mistake. It's a fairly standard 40% but tastes much stronger.

The label claims notes of vanilla and tobacco, but I feel like I missed the vanilla entirely and the tobacco was somewhat overpowered by the general petrol-like qualities of it

Will be drinking the rest of the bottle in cocktails to disguise what is a rum that is frankly, not to my taste at all.

Most people wants to find rum with good value for money. Well, here it is. It’s very hard to find anything better for this amount of money. The only one I found is the English Harbour 5yo.
It’s a blend of separately aged rums in ex-Bourbon barrels distilled from Coffey and pot stills. After blended it’s aged for six months more in oak vats. The average age of the blend is 5 years.
The aromas is rich and spicy. I recognize banana, fruits, oak and vanilla.
In mouth and on the palate there are tastes of chocolate, raisin, tobacco and clove which’s still there during the quite long finish.
There’s really something special with its flavours and nice afterburn.
After what I have heard it’s the most consumed rum in St. Lucia. So it can’t be more karibik. This is a very good everyday rum to a very low price.

I enjoy most of CR’s rums but this one I can’t get used to it. I have tried it on three separate occasions last week while vacationing in Saint Lucia and just dont like it. My favorite CR rums are Vintage 2009, Legacy, Forgotten Cask and 1931 in that order.

Lively on the tongue with just enough honey and vanilla to calm the palate. Raisins linger on the nose which is as nice as it is pretentious 😎

This one makes me shudder....a piquant, pungent punch on the nose and a spice bomb slap in the mouth. Way too much going on here to drink neat and there’s a nasty cardamom flavouring that lingers. It settles down with some mixer but for the price point, there are much better rums. Maybe I have should have tried it with an Indian meal.

On the lower end of Chairman’s reserve offering some of which are excellent. This is a well rum for mixing, don’t try to drink it straight.

excellent rum, best price / performance ratio. In this price range you will find hardly better rum.

Surprisingly harsh for Chairman’s Reserve. Mixes well however

Nothing wrong with this offering but just doesn't stand out on a very crowded shelf. Isn't a sipper in my eyes and as a mixer falls in favor of new and potentially better discoveries in the section.
