Tried on a rum tasting evening... can't recall any specific flavors...
Reminded me of cognac, distantly. Wood and fruity, easily downed. For 1 small sample out of it, was really okay. Nothing memorable, noteworthy, to take back home.
This rum was recommended to me as good alternative to Borucal Reserva Exclusiva. I can'ts say, that this one is real alternative for Botucal, but it definetly deserves your attention. It has something similar with Botucal, but contains some sour tones in its taste.
I find it sweet on the palate, with traces of vanilla and caramel. It is also very sweet on the nose.
I think it cost me around 30 USD, excellent price, and it gave me very good after-dinner
Karamelová a dřevitá vůně. T
Dosti nasladlý a mírně dřevitý rum, více než 7 letý. V chuti jsou třešně, karamel a vanilka.
Spíše 7-8/10
Aroma soft with some caramel and alcohol and detected wood scent. Taste was not overwhelming with sweetness for me. Definitely caramel, some spice and slight wood taste. Aftertaste is short. I want to really like this rum but there is nothing that stands out. It is a good rum and that is all. But for the same price point as Cana Fuerte 16, Kaniche, el pasador de oro, plantation xo, ???? Maybe that is it. This is a fine rum but for the $25 price range not $45
This is a perfect, ideally balanced classic rum. I caught myself thinking that they deliberately lowered the strength to 37.5 in order to balance the aftertaste of 12 years of aging. And they did it brilliantly. Definitely will recommend it and buy again!
Five rums to which you would never add Coca-Cola

I finally got around to buying a bottle of this highly rated rum from Panama. The nose is of leather and wood. On the tongue, it is vanilla and caramel. Then it is followed by a nasty bitter burn at the back of my throat. After waiting a few hours and trying again, the nasty after burn was replaced by the taste of shoe leather. The wooden planks of the barrel are held together by leather, which is where this taste comes from. However, this aftertaste is so undesirable that I recommend a slogan for this distiller, "Abuelo...for the masochist lurking within all of us". Sorry, but I can only rate it as a 5 and after not liking their Anejo, I will not buy any more Abuelo. It is a decent rum, but just not for me.
You have all heard of funky Jamaican rums and my 12-year Appleton Estate Reserve Blend had a love/hate relationship with me because of the unique funk. I thought that funky rums were unique to Jamaica until now. This one is a funky Panamanian! If that floats your boat, then go for it.
And finally after a few more tastings, this one was aged in port wine casks. Personally, I love port wines such as Dow's Tawny Port, but not mixed with my rum. Sorry, but the combination of these two polar opposites comes off to this drinker as funky Panamanian. I have also had not much luck with other rums aged in sherry or port casks such as Papa's Pilar Dark. Knowing this tidbit will save me lots from buying rums that are highly rated by drinkers who like the fortified wine barrels for aging.
