I thought the Abuelo Centuria was a little pricey, but this surprised me at only $36.99 (Beltramo's 2015 price). Tastes more like sugar cane than molasses; also includes brown sugar, tobacco, toffee, allspice, cinnamon, oak, bourbon, and vanilla. A surprisingly good rum; especially for the price!
But it's a really good rum!
Ron Abuelo Gran Reserva is made from molasses - but with little added sugar cane juice . And it is perhaps this that has helped to lift the Gran Reserva to a higher level !
The aroma have lots of fruity sweetness, yet with good balance with clear hints of caramel and cherry - and a little coconut ! The flavor is moderately intense with great sweetness! This will return the candy and the cherries from the aroma , along with exotic fruits !
I would rate this excellent rum at a much higher price in a blind test I am sure. My first bottle is soon empty and I will definitely go for a renewal.
This is a keeper! A really nice Spanish style rum that delivers a good mix of sweetness and fruity and spicy flavours. Maybe not as good as Zacapa, but I would put it on equal footing with say Reserva Diplomatico Exclusiva, which has a similar taste profile.
Good rum that goes down smoothly straight up. Not very complex but good allround taste
thin body and a little burn. Smell very interesting
Fairly smooth, nice color and aroma. A little pricey but you should try it a least once.
One for sipping and savouring. The best I've had yet.
Sweeter than Zafra. Nice mixed. No fancy packaging
A average okay rum. Strong first-touch that reminds me to cocnac
colour is deep brilliant amber, nose is complex, sweet spice and fruit. tatse of nutmeg, cinamon, butterscotch, dried vigs, toasted nuts and dark chocolate.
For its price, I think this is the best sipping rum I have ever tasted
Nowhere near the Centuria. But at the price still a very good rum. Oak and vanilla seem to dominate.
Not so sweet like same level Diplomatico (which somebody can prefer), smooth, nice, not so known premium rum. I like to give 8,5...
very good stuff. The nose isn't that great to be honest and i has this 'alcohol' smell, if you know what i mean. but then I sipped it and it almost blew my mind. after the decent nose i really wasn't expecting such a sweet and complex taste with a smooth and longholding ending.
One of my go-to rums for sipping straight or on the rocks.
Well, nothings sticks out, a very drinkable rum, medium sweetness, lot of taste - quite similar in taste to El Dorado 15 years.
This is a sweet rum that will have you checking your receipt to see if you really paid that little for such a nice rum. It is not complex but at this price you can be biased. This drink left me wanting to buy the Abuelo Centuria as this is meant to be the top rum in the Abuelo brand. I just need a reason to justify myself this purchase.
In the nose, abuelo is fruity & chocolate flavour is in.
In the mouth, we have a really good storm of flavour. Very good balanced between the woody, chocolate, leather and almond flavour.
