Very good rum great taste and smoothness.
I like it to be a little more rough at the end, but a very nice run
I would rate this excellent rum at a much higher price in a blind test I am sure. My first bottle is soon empty and I will definitely go for a renewal.
Well, nothings sticks out, a very drinkable rum, medium sweetness, lot of taste - quite similar in taste to El Dorado 15 years.
very good stuff. The nose isn't that great to be honest and i has this 'alcohol' smell, if you know what i mean. but then I sipped it and it almost blew my mind. after the decent nose i really wasn't expecting such a sweet and complex taste with a smooth and longholding ending.
Not so sweet like same level Diplomatico (which somebody can prefer), smooth, nice, not so known premium rum. I like to give 8,5...
Bought it because of the ratings here. What a nice rum, especially if you consider it's price. Only 28 euros here on the internet. 39 euros at local stores. I agree with most, it's sweet. And, altough a lot don't like the added sugar, I really do! Together with the alcohol bite and nice aftertaste worth every penny!!! Will buy another one,,an easy 8!!
Edit april 7 2017::: just bought another one and had the exact same experience!
Don't hasitate,,,, go out and buy one!!!
What a nice rum this is.
A great complex aroma in the glass which you expect with rum's that are a bit older and in a higher price range then this one.
I really like the taste of it and it's very smooth.
The after taste is also very nice.
Picked up a bottle of this on a camping trip through southern Utah, and was very pleased with the selection. Like many Central American rums, to me, this one had a light mouthfeel, notes of tropical fruits and citrus, and a pleasant slightly spiced aroma. The oak notes were prominent, but enjoyable. Would definitely buy this again.
For me, this is what I like in a rum. However, I can understand why people would find this too sweet and too oaky. The sweetness is intense on the front palate before the oak kicks in to mellow it down. On the finish, the sweetness caries on well after the oak. But.....just sometimes, I can find it to be all a bit too confected. But whether it is a good drinking day or not, it is supremely smooth, full bodied and easy to drink
EDIT - the Mezan Panama is made by the same people as this, and to me is better. While it doesn't have the smokey flavours, the sweetness isn't quite so in your face.
2nd Edit - I have just been given a litre bottle at 37.5% and it is very different to the 70cl 40% bottle that I have just finished. Unsurprisingly it is smoother than the 40%, and the oak notes are much more pronounced. I had become rather undecided about the 40% as it had a dirty edge to it, but the 37.5% is right up there. Very good.
I really liked this before, during and after - a shame that the bottle is so boring, because the taste is sumptuous.
On the nose you get rich fruit, medium cream sherry, soft oak, caramel, a hint of brown sugar (before sipping you can guess that some sugar has been added)
In taste, pretty similar to the nose, but also some very subtle exotic fruit (maybe banana, apricot, mango, cherry, dates). There's a slight smokeyness but it's right at the back, whilst the soft oak feels like a container to hold it all in.
The aftertaste is rather like a medium sweet wine or sherry.
I'd compare this to two other rums I've so far tasted - Santa Teresa 1796 and El Dorado 12. To my taste buds, this is richer than either; and more sweet than the Santa Teresa and about on a par with the El Dorado. It is more resonant of fruit and sherry than either of those other rums, but less complex than the Santa Teresa and without the dry finish and molasses hit of the El Dorado. If you like one of these, it's pretty unlikely that you'd dislike the others, though which you prefer could vary. For me, the other two just shade it because this one has a slightly rough edge in terms of the aftertaste - more than any rum I have tried, if you drink enough of it, it will catch you out sooner or later and lead to the impulse to cough.
This is a sweet rum that will have you checking your receipt to see if you really paid that little for such a nice rum. It is not complex but at this price you can be biased. This drink left me wanting to buy the Abuelo Centuria as this is meant to be the top rum in the Abuelo brand. I just need a reason to justify myself this purchase.
Buen producto final.
In the nose, abuelo is fruity & chocolate flavour is in.
In the mouth, we have a really good storm of flavour. Very good balanced between the woody, chocolate, leather and almond flavour.
This is a keeper! A really nice Spanish style rum that delivers a good mix of sweetness and fruity and spicy flavours. Maybe not as good as Zacapa, but I would put it on equal footing with say Reserva Diplomatico Exclusiva, which has a similar taste profile.
I liked this a lot for my first time trying it. I tried it with coke and sipped on it as a shooter. I can drink either way but prefer with coke. I will definitely buy again.
Good rum that goes down smoothly straight up. Not very complex but good allround taste
This is an excellent rum from Panama that I really enjoy. It is a great value at around $30 too. It starts out smelling like toffee and orange or apples and gets even better from there. The flavor really shines with the toffee, apple abd caramel and this has a nice viscosity so it coats the palate nicely. This is an excellent sipper.
