(12. December 2018 i MacY)
We did a rum tasting of Central America rums all 7 yr and older and this was #1 choice from 4 out of 5 guys
Worth trying
This is really nice supprise. This was my first rum from Abuelo and and it was a hit. Really nice aroma of oak, vanilla and caramel. In mouth you can feel nice balance of fruit, oak, toffee and vanilla. End is supprisingly long and sweet. Outstanding rum for its price.
A staple of the upmarket canary island all inclusive this one. Decent.
This 12 years is less sweet than the 7 years and I find the burn of alcohol at the end is just to harsh!
You always gotta love your first. When I first dove into drinking nicer rums this was my first taste, and I was hooked. Still love it today. Smooth and easy to sip neat. Always in the cabinet.
I have always loved this rum, but it's expensive in Canada. I bought 3 bottles at the duty free on SJO for 75 USD. I still love taking this 12 year old out and sipping it. It isn't as smooth as some 21 or even other 12 year olds, but it's very easy on the palate.
Picked this up in Dom Rep recently at duTY free. Could possibly be referred to as DREs little brother. Not as sweet but certainly has a lot of similarities.
Wood and fruit on the nose, gorgeous colour, a short burn leaving a really warm feel on the tongue.
Top class sipping rum,
Enjoy it.
Good body and nicely balanced between sweet and dry. Good sfter dinner neat or with a rock or two.
Don't expect something superior. This is a good quality daily sipping rum. Very good at this price category. Very sweet and indeed comperable to Botucal Reserva Exclusiva. A lot of vanilla, cane sugar, cocoa and fresh wood notes.
I think this is a pretty good rum, it’s quiet sweet which I don’t mind too much with tonic or something. I get vanilla and coconut with a slight oak after taste.
Realy nice nose full of vanilla and raisin. I like this one a bit more than the 7 year old but pricetechnical I prefer the 7 year old.
Had it during a flight to South America - the flight attendant saw I was sipping the Abuelo Añejo (younger rum) and brought me this. The 12-yr is definitely an improvement when compared to the Añejo as the first smells in nose are that of toffee, caramel and a hint of vanilla, and after it comes the alcohol smell. In mouth it is smoother and you can taste less the alcohol than the Añejo. It is a woody rum so expect a dry aftertaste. I am sure that the older versions are worth exploring. Can’t wait to try the older versions!
Very sweet and nicely full aroma, taste being a tad on the simpler side. Nice sipper none the less.
Sweet and with caremel flavour. Reminds me of Diplomatico
Krásně voní, chuť výborná, co si přát víc, vedle Diplomatica Reserva, Ron de Jeremy parádní volba
Jemný, krásně voní po karamelu s trochou kouře. Spousta potěšení za pár peněz.
This rum was my best choice since my first serious rum, which was Ron Barcelo Imperial. Abuelo 12 is very delicate, sweet and with touch of honey. I can recommend him for rum beginners and as well as a gift. Really perfect choice and decent bottle moreover.
To my palate, this tastes a wee bit like Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, but with much more "fire". Also hints of sherry, raisins and vanilla. Beautiful tasting Rum, sweet but not overly so.
I do like the wood in this one and I do like the little burn and the taste of caramel and molasses that you have in your mouth just after you have finished it. But it just ends there, can't feel the magic in this one, don't know why, maybe it is too sweet, maybe I had better rums so I can't be objective with this one. Price in Europe might be interesting but for 5€ you can have a lot of better bottles.
Sweet and tasteful, but too much flavor of dried prune or raisins for me.
This may be a feature of panamanian rum, there was same flavor in Rum Nation Panama.
Nose : Sweet, caramel, fruit.
Taste : Just like the nose its very good. Caramel is there from the start and the some sweet fruit and nuts.
Very good rhum and creamy.
Bon petit ron à un rapport qualité prix correct pour un 12 ans
