Dominant Flavors: vanilla bean, salt water, leather, mild oak,

You get an initial oak and bourbon Barrel flavor that is similar to MGXO and just when you'd expect some kind of sweet finish... nope. That's where it's similarity to MGXO ends. What's interesting is that with the lack of sweetness you might expect a bitter or some kind of off-putting finish, but this rum just sorta smooths itself out. No lingering bitterness or anything that might keep one from continuing to drink it. It has all the good of the dry side of MGXO. Definitely SMOOTH stuff. I like it as a complex dry sipper, but I don't prefer it bc I do enjoy some sweetness. Drinking it side by side with Don Q Gran Añejo, the sweetness in the Puerto Rican rum is fantastic and I never appreciated it more. Overall R L Seale's 10 year is solid unadulterated Bajan rum, but I don't like it as much as his Doorly's 12 yr.
Update: its growing on me and I can begin to taste a tiny bit of sweetness when neat. Before I got this I was drinking Ron Zacapa 23 Solera and Doorly's 12 yr hence my initial review saying too "unsweet". I still say if sweet is what you like then this rum isn't for you, however it's very well made and has nothing bad tasting about it. update: got my second bottle and I've been drinking u sugared rums lately, it's a great natural rum with vanilla and oak flavor that isn't that fruity and isn't very sweet, I would prefer it over a bourbon any day tho and it's a lot like Doorly's 8 year with less bite and maybe less fruit.

The smell of this rum gives you the impression that it will taste like honey but i do not get this in the taste. It is a very smooth rum although i found it lacking lots of flavour. I got no burn at all from this.

View: Pours dark golden brown

Nose: Hints of oak

Initial Tasting: A bit of the oaknup front, but not much complexity

Body: Oak and spice with very faint caramel

Fade: Not much on the back end

Overall: It's a high quality rum for the price point. I was hoping for a little more complexity, but it was fairly straightforward in that regard. Definitely worth staight but mixes very well, too.

The gimmicky shape of the bottle put me right off trying this rum, but fortunately, I was given a bottle as a Christmas present. My assumption that it was not a serious rum was totally wrong. Strong taste of caramel and liquorice, but not too sweet. Fairly smooth for a 46% proof 10 year old, with just a little burn. It is as good as, if not better, than some of the 12 year olds I drink, but oddly, the 12 year olds currently appear to be cheaper in the UK. Prices fluctuate, so will stock up when, hopefully, the price drops.

Could be less sweet for me but this is in overall great rum you can enjoy as is and you will have hard time to stop drinking :)

A bit basic flavor profile, but very big on plums. A bit hot with 46% alcohol.

The light amber colour and sweet smell should not deter. Taste starts a bit harsh fresh out the unique bottle, but left over a cube or two for a minute starts to uncover a subtle, not overly sweet, taste of banana, spice, vanilla and caramel. Once settled it makes for very pleasant sipping. They have captured perfectly that un-altered Caribbean Rum taste that first lured me to the spirit.

Very smooth, comes close to the Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva.
Love it, although hard to find, even online. Really like the bottle design haha!

This is a fantastic Barbados rum, simply put, the value for a delicious rum is why I give it a 9. I can’t really pin down why, but my mouth loves it, the nose is molasses, caramel, baking spices, smells rich and dark. Monsieur Seal can do no wrong in my book, so that also plays into why this tastes so good, will never be without a bottle of this around!
