Out the door for .49 shy of $70 this bottle sits in a lofty position. Options a plenty around this price point but was extremely pleased with my choice.
It's refined focused and to the point. A recognizable quality is embedded into each sniff and sip and it's hard to put down. Bottled at a generous 45% a little acclamation happens thus so the profiles are numerous. It's the Bees Knees if....
You like oak bourbon and dry!
You may have buyers remorse if you like sweet sugary molasses.
The JM XO agricole rhum from Martinique is one of my favorite agricole rhums and also one of the bests of the island.
JM dark rhums are very strong but very floral in their taste and this one is a real experience for anybody who try it out.
One of my favourite rums. Very spicy but in equilibrium with the fruit tastes.
Meravigioso!
A déguster.
Nez assez faible. Gout original qui sort des terrains battus. Un petit pineau Charente. Pas trop sur l’alcool
Taste is still on spices. Alcohol is a bit more melted than the VSOP one (but still present even in the aftertaste). I would expect it a bit less harsh...
Color : amber
Flavour : toasted nut, lemon & sage, mango, passion fruit, finish of spice like white pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg
Palate : mid-bodied, long lasting, sweet finish
Aged 100% in re-charred Bourbon barrels, it's an elegant rhum that suits any palate. Very nice paired with dark chocolat or exotic fruits
This one I tested when joining a test seccion of different Rum styles together with ckoholate. The Rhum was much rounder and brought more flovours with chokolate then without. Vanilla and banans in long aftertaste.
Not my usual kind of rum of choice but this was a very pleasant surprise. Anything with a bourbon ageing process usually puts me off but I found this rather subtle which pleased me. Nice flavours of honey and something else maybe sage? One I would try again without hesitation
Very good Rhum aricul . It's something for pirates.
Rhum J.M. XO tastes like many other Agricole but less aggressive, so that’s why I think it’s a good agricole to start with. The flavour are very elegant and you can for example smell citrus, salvia and exotic fruits. In your mouth you will recognise pepper, musqot, cinnamon and a lot of oak.
If you want to test Agricole, try this one!
Picture: My Rhum J.M shelf.
Intense high alcohol nose, with banana, caramel, woood, nutmeg and vanilla. Powerful smooth pallet. Earthy, nutmeg, pepper, sweet citrus and toffee. A very nice and intense rum.
Grassy, pleasant and a wonderful finish...........
but still excellent. Sage and other spices, the finishing of some sweet white wine. Not to forget the bourbon that was in the barrells before. Probably not to everybody's taste, though.
45% Golden colour in the glass , gentle alcohol smell. Very fruity and flowery aroma's to the nose plus a sandelwood or peppery note ? Sips nicely with white fruits in the mix with a spicey pepper hint.
Enjoyable unsweetened , unflavoured agricole.
Golden amber with copper colored light in the glass.
In the nose, freshly cut green apples with white grapes garnish on a toasted oak board. Fresh and inviting, one is looking forward to the first sip.
In the palate, typical Agricole with a strong honest appearance (45%) without however paralyzing the taste buds, no on the contrary they are stimulated beautifully and are ready to absorb the flavors.
Fresh yellow and white fruits like apples and pears flatter the tongue, the whole seasoned with white pepper and nutmeg. You feel transported into the scenery of etiquette.
In the finish, just delicious, the fruity holds on and floats with a light sweetness of it.
On the lip remains a pleasant peppery seasoning.
An original Rhum without trumpery, for beginners and lovers of Rhum Agricole certainly a good choice, wonderful on a warm summer evening.
This was reccommended to me by a bloke in Martinique who made the bold claim that it was the favourite of the island. A bold claim, which I accepted with a pinch of salt, given that he was trying to sell me a bottle. I didn't buy one that day, but got one from Amazon a few months later.
Yes, there is a bit of burn, but once you have had a few sips, it is easily forgiven.
It has spices, and a dryness which isn't unpleasant, even for a lover of sweeter rums, like me.
I think I paid about £45 for it and was sorry to see the last drop fall out of the bottle.
If you haven't tried agricole rum (rhum) yet, this is a very good place to start.
