I love Guyana Rum and Demerara in particular, this Rum is very tasty and it presents an unparalleled value/price ratio.
You have to like natural Rum without added tastes and sugar, in two words: "authentic Rum".
As I open the bottle I smell light oak, maybe some Cherry (I think the colour sort of mislead me as this Rum is rather brown-reddish in colour), and after a while salty air after a seastorm. The alcohol doesn't kick, yet...
To the taste it is strong and it fills quickly your mouth, lips and nose: liquorice, a mainly dark finish with some sweetness to it, after a while again this seastorm salty mist kind of taste. Maybe I taste Sherry again, I don't know why I got stuck on this taste, I'll have to try again in a few weeks and update the review to confirm... it's really good.
Great finish notes, long persistence. I limit my vote to 7 because for me above that is Mt Olympus of Rum, and it seems unfair to the sacred beasts of Rum to go in the 8-9 range (say J. Bally 1982, Hampden Estate 1992, Samaroli Demerara 1979, to name few). So, out of respect for the noblest Rums (and way more expensive btw), I would give "just" 7 / 10.
