Prima argricole om als mixer te gebruiken. Jaartje gerijpt op ex-bourbon vaten. Grassig, specerijen en hout. 50% abv.
Goede voor in een Ti'Punch.
This cheap (20€) Rhum J.M. Is just aged for one year in re-charred ex-Bourbon barrels.
From nose, via palate to the rather long finish there is delicate grass notes, spices (I think I recognized cinnamon), cream and vanilla together with typical cane juice sugar.
Overall a well-balanced sipping rhum that I think will make great in a drink.

Slight grassiness with a touch of oak. Best of both flavor worlds. Aged 1 year. Any longer and I feel that you lose too much of the nice grassy character of an agricole.
This 1 year sugar cane rum was the only Agricole rum (Rhum) in my area. I picked it up fast as I have been doing some reading up on Agricole rums. I love the idea, and at a higher ABV 50%, I got my surprise.
Peeking around the plantation label is a nice golden rum wanting to get out. It’s actually a nice sight to behold. Upon the pour, the aroma is different than a molasses based rum (think Pussers here), a nice smell. Sugar cane does come through and a slight oakiness. I don’t get the grassiness others find, but I’m new at trying to detect it. You do get the awakening this is a higher alcohol rum.
The taste is actually good for a 1 year rum, ringing true that Agricoles are better younger. I immediately got the alcohol pucker, and oak, and a sense this is a purer rum. The peppery alcohol stayed with me a bit, but interestingly, a sweetness followed. The alcohol left a burn for longer than I thought it would. I’d like to try the 3 year old version for comparison.
After a couple of pours, I was ready to mix it with something sweet (Coca Cola) for me. It definitely goes well with Cola, but someone suggested Ginger Ale and that sounds good. It is better mixed, as a sipper? I’m not ready for it.
I’d buy this again ($33 USD) for me, but I’d like to try the 3 year old next to find if it’s mellower, and perhaps another Agricole.
Für einen perfekten Ti'Punch Vieux
Light amber in the glass.
Fresh and fruity on the nose. Delicious tropical fruits and crushed sugar cane lie motley in a lightly toasted barrel. Elegant caramel and vanilla scents with hints of cocoa and anise open a path to a new universe.
Fruity and smooth on the palate. The 50% abv. carries the flavors feather-light to the taste buds and caresses them gently. These awaken and first take in fruits steeped in caramel, joined by vanilla beans and woods, the sugar cane is also not left out.
The finish is soft and long. Sugar cane and fruit pass, caramel and wood linger a bit longer. What remains is a beautiful memory.
A super mix fame quite also to drink neat, for Agricole lovers, bartenders, explorers and connoisseurs. 7++
For a perfect Ti'Punch Vieux
Rough as a sipper, akin to rocket fuel and some moonshine I've had! Reasonable as a mixer, flambes beautifully and adds wonderful taste when added as the final ingredient to bananas foster.
with a bit of water, quite drinkable..............
I am only starting to really taste and learn about agricol rhum, so I don't have much to compare it with.
But overall it seemed a bit like drinking brandy, with a more almost herbal smell and taste, from the sugar cane I think.
50% is also a little harsh.
Hard to drink straight, not a lot of rummy taste, maybe it is normal for this style...
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Round, sweet, grassy, tequila-like nose. A friend said "nutty," which I agree with as well. Hugely grassy taste. The strength (100 proof) shows through in astringency. Medium-short finish. Very nice!
In typical JM fashion, this is an archetypal rhum agricole (elevé sous bois). Probably makes a killer Ti Punch. Mellows out nicely a bit after breathing.
