This is my first rhum agricole, so I'm a bit of a novice, but I can't say I have any complaints. It packs a punch of grassy, vegetal funk. Like most unaged rums it's a bit harsh to drink straight but it really shines in a cocktail, especially when paired with other contrasting rums. Definitely something to keep behind the bar!
Super Agricole rum, vynikajici jak na ciste popijeni tak na michani s drinky. Super vonavy, louka, ovoce na konci prijemne hrejivy. Rekl bych super pro vstup do sveta Agricolu.
I was a bit disappointed by my last bottle of this. I've been drinking this for a couple of years and I could swear it used to be more flavorful and complex.
It's quite smooth and has that typical agricole smell and taste of grass and ester - but that's it, there aren't any additional flavors to make it interesting. It's boring compared to how it used to be, and compared to many cheaper agricoles (Rhum J.M is one of the more expensive agricoles here).
Tasted at a Rhum JM tasting event 4/2023. Grassy, young, and a little sharp. I liked the 110 (which I believe is the same distillate but at a higher proof) better.
Tasted at Laka Lono 1/26/22 in the form of daiquiri, aka JuanDax.
Notes are concise and say: SO MUCH Agricole. This is Todd's wheelhouse.
This means I truly appreciate this rum, and would lift it as an example of the style, even if it would not be my first choice as a sipper.
Edit: 10/28/23 at Recival House Des Moines
Appearance: clear
Aroma: sourdough bread
Flavor: earthy, doughy, is that cinnamon no it is not but this is complex
Rich fruity and sugarcane aroma, smooth body with very nice burn.
Très parfumé. Excellent en ti-punch. Bon rapport qualité prix.
Tasted at Laka Lono on 7/11/21. Pours clear. Aroma is bread dough grassy- huge agricole. I smell cherries. Up front spiciness. Mild pepper. Mellow sweetness to the flavor with a slight anise. This totally does not seem like a 100 proof rum as it is so smooth. A classic benchmark for the style.
It’s very spicy and quite grassy.
"Overall its quite sweet but displays a more savoury vegetal note."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This is going to the other extreme with me finding out that rhum agricoles need to be kept from aging too long in oak barrels because they absorb too much of the woody flavor and wind up becoming gluten free bourbons.
The aroma is very similar to a cachaca and the taste is lots of pepper on the tongue with no after burn or bitterness. It does not even rank among my best rated cachacas. This one is only good for Ti Punch, but ice cubes do tame it down. Don't even think of sipping it neat. For only $30 US for one liter, it still is not a good buy.
One other good thing about rhum agricole blancs from Martinique and artisinal cachacas from Brazil is that no hangover can be expected. As you can see, I rank them in the same class. However, with the taste of this rhum, I seriously doubt that anyone could drink enough to see if there is actually no hangover the next day. With this one, you are much better off with the taste of Avua Prata Cachaca or Neisson Rhum Agricole Blanc. However, as bad as I now make this one sound, it is still a lot better than anything by Bacardi or Captain Morgan, thus retaining my original ranking of 6.
