Rum with beer finish does not always go well. But this IPA finish is done right. You can sense the IPA notes in a well balanced way, on the nose, taste and aftertaste.
I get fresh, fruity, sour notes at the same time. Some bitternes from the IPA, but well balanced and well integrated IPA finish!

I feel like I need to go get a beer after this!! I can imagine drinking a IPA together with this rum will match perfectly together. Fun experience and I am bit surprised the lower score it has been given so far.

Edit:
Wow, suddenly a really smooth, fresh and damn good sour aftertaste begin to reveal Itself. stays there for long time. Fantastic!

sometimes I am confused by cask exchange rums; while I enjoy Terrapin IPA I enjoy this Rum better. I don’t pick up any IPA flavors or notes but instead get a smooth, warm sipping rum with little to no burn. They didn’t sell a CASK strength, but at 86 proof it’s worth my money - and always grab a bottle when I find it.

Vune - drevo, kava a karamel. Chuť - vanilka, karamel, medicína. Je cítit vyšší voltaz. Přijde mi spis jamajského typu.

What is it? Richland Rum Single Estate Old South Georgia Rum, Terrapin Double IPA Cask Exchange Single Barrel Select. 43% ABV. Distilled “12/12” (website says Christmas eve, 2012), cask 75, bottle 34. From what I can gather, this was aged for 3 years in new American oak, then in some mystery barrel for an unknown amount of time, then back into the original barrel, having had been filled and emptied of Terrapin DIPA, for another year. Total age is 5–6 years, according to Seelbachs.
Nose: cherry cough syrup and high notes, initially. Not a great start, but the past Richlands I’ve tasted evolve greatly over time. There’s also a good amount of oak and pot-still funk. It’s not unlike Velier’s The Last Ward, truth be told. The cherry does mellow somewhat and blend with a touch of caramel and vanilla, but it's always there.
Palate: totally Last Ward. Wood, caramel, cherry, and pine. With time, the pine grows more dominant. There's a slightly oily mouthfeel. I'd like to say that's the oily, bitter, herbal notes are hops, and they could be, but it's probably just the power of suggestion and wanting to seek out the IPA influence.
Takeaway: No doubt this is a singular rum, very herbal, and would be fun to use in place of rye, or possibly with gin, in a cocktail. It's very good, but again I'm just not that into the cherry. (Also, $80 is quite a lot to pay for a relatively young, low-proof rum. You probably wouldn't want it much hotter, but still, you're paying for the novelty and rarity of this cask-exchange product.)

Update: After further tastings, my impression of this bottle has only gotten worse. It's different, it's complex, but it's just not delicious. Not just that—it's kinda gross. I'd say it's pretty clearly a failed experiment. Hope they learned from it, and stray from such gimmicks in the future.
