57% ABV. Batch 1, bottle 195. Distilled and bottled at Three Oaks, MI. Unknown ageing. Light gold/straw color. Surprisingly gentle nose. Vanilla and caramel. Oaky spice. Touch of alcohol. Fuller palate. Lots of oak and cherry. A good amount of char. I'm guessing this was aged in new oak (edit: it wasn't, but it was aged in fresh bourbon barrels, which likely held whiskey for a very short amount of time and may have been wet, who knows). Very dry and Bourbon-like, with a short finish. Reminds me very much of Diablo's Shadow Navy Strength. Just a bit too much vanilla. Would love to see a longer-aged version with more neutral wood. But as it is, still pretty tasty, and would probably mix really well.
I was happily surprised by the fine flavor and evenness of this navy rum. Selling a fifth for $50 at the distillery restaurant is higher than I am prepared to pay.
