Had a test of the 3yo, 4yo & the 5yo Montebello this evening with my son.
We both thought the 3yo and the 5yo beats the 4yo.
The 4yo is vintage 2010 and I don’t think Montebello has produced any 4yo rhum after that.
The nose is quite weak especially before warming up the filled glass in your hand. After warmed up it’s very sharp, definitely the sharpest of the three. After a while the sharpness disappears and that how it is also on the palate. It tastes too little in my opinion and that goes also for the end and afterburn. It’s of course possible to recognize the cane, some oak and fruits but everything is too weak.
Pictures: My Montebello shelf & My opened bottle.
Œil: doré.
Nez: fruité/floral.
Bouche : très sec/pétrole/pas de fruit/pas de fleur.

Enjoyed a bottle of Montebello Vieux 4y while vacationing in Guadeloupe. Cheap bottle and label design. Cheap at EUR 10 a bottle. Light golden color. Dry Rhum Agricole flavors like grass and floral notes alongside plenty of oak to the nose and palate. Strong burn at the end being so dry. Rhum Agricole lovers can add 2 points to my score.
