I had this at tasting selection , on first nose it's harsh and very overpowering in the grassy and wood notes.

I was told to add a drop of water and it changed complexity completely , don't get me wrong the grass stayed but immense flavours of chocolate , cherry and cask notes .

At this percentage it's dynamite the only thing that lets it down is price but that's why is scores 9 and not 10... 9nly joking 10

This Agricole, from the Bellevue distillery, distilled in 2009 have been aged for a minimum of 7 years in former bourbon casks of American oak before reduced to ABV 42% and bottled.
The year 2009 is said to have given a harvest of cane rich in sugar in Guadeloupe.
The nose is oaky, sweet, vegetal, fruity and spicy with hints of smoke, tobacco and nuts.
In the mouth, on the palate and during the medium long finish increases the aromas from the nose but I also recognize vanilla, orange and pepper.
Overall a very round Agricole, maybe too round. It would have been interesting to taste its brother at ABV 66,9% also aged for 7 years and from 2009.

Since Damoiseau 1995 was exceptional, I wan't to try a younger one.

The aromas in the nose are shy and reminds me a little bit of Kirt&Sweeney. But the nose is harsh.
I got white oak, vanilla, some caramel, apricot, dry fruits, grasy notes, lemon gras.
Then there are barrel with earth deeper inside.
Not very intensive or complex nose, noticeable fresh or young. The dry fruits are very present.

The taste starts a little bit sweet with white oak and grasy notes. It's turns very spicy and strong. The alcohol tingels in the mouth. Hae, it's gettin hot in here... damn, this rhum is spicy.
I got grasy notes, some vanilla, oak and lemon gras first, then some caramel and tannins.
The middle starts with grasy notes and turns medical. Then vanilla, some apricot and again wood with tannins and hints of chocolate .
The finish is a little bit bitter with tannins, wood, grasy notes, vanilla and apricot.

Not bad overall, but not exceptional, far away from 1995 or from Savanna Creol 2007. Would rate it with 79 points.

Nose: white oak, vanilla, some caramel, apricot, dark dry fruits, grasy notes, lemon gras, barrel and earth
Taste: grasy notes, white oak, vanilla, lemon gras, citrus, some caramel, tannins
Middle: grasy and medical notes, vanilla, apricot, oak, chocolate, tannins
Finish: spice, tannins, wood, grasy notes, vanilla, apricot, chocolate
Aftertaste: apricot, grasy notes, some star fruit

Sweetness: 1.5/5
Fruits: 2/5
Spice: 4.5/5
Mildness: 2.5/5
Complexity: 3/5
Value (65€): 2.5/5 <- if you like it hot and fresh, would be -> 3.5

I am not unfamiliar with high proof rums, having drunk OFTD straight and Goslings black seal many a time but this one had way more burn than both the previous aforementioned! It's decent but my tongue and roof of mouth was on fire for about a day afterwards haha. Was more burn than flavour for me.
