This is just not my taste. I wouldn't say it is bad, but it just doesn't feel like I am drinking a good rum. There is some Chocolate flavor (Belgian rum, right!? :)), but it is not too sweet, it smells ok, has a nice color. I got this as a gift, but i wouldn't buy it myself, there are various better options at this price.
Even though I didn't expect that much I was too curious about the filtration system Radermacher is using to create this rum. So I bought a bottle and wasn't disappointed. They are using cocoa chips for filtration and claim that this process gives the rum its smooth and special aroma. Well, I can only tell that they are right! The 1836 is so smooth and has so little alcohol in nose and taste. The mouth is rich on caramel, pears and of course cocoa. Also there is a little smoky hint of the time the rum spent in Lambertus whisky casks. Sadly there is no information of how long the rum is maturing at all, so I guess it is not an old rum. But who cares if the outcome is such a fine treat. And it's made from organic sugar cane, what I do very appreciate.
Not my taste, it's not bad but, not my taste. Chocolate flavour, not too strong alcohol smell and taste, nice bottle, not much to say, average score for me, Nice colour, not too sweet, better rums available for the price. Bio product wich is nice. Although I got it cheap, wouldn't buy again. Bit dissapointed for this bottle as I am Belgian myself and we allways stand for premium quality, maybe the reason this product has great chocolate taste to it ;), I'll bet there are some lovers of this as wel but not me.
I've been gifted a bottle of this rhum and was expecting some average flat tasting alcohol, however I was very pleasantly surprised by the rich taste and good quality of this interesting rhum.
Rum made in Belgium, organic and matured in a whiskey casks. Not bad but nothing special too. Good for the price
