Bought one bottle in Belgium and two bottles in Germany while driving home from Spain.
This one, aged for at least 10 years, has a special place in my heart cause I belonged to a Grenadier regiment in the military.
It’s still available in both a 70cl bottle and a magnum bottle but it’s getting tougher and tougher to find it cause it’s not produced anymore.
In nose dominates licorice, cigars and oak. In mouth you can recognize vanilla, chocolate, prunes, cocoa, cinnamon and fruits among others. The final is great and quite long.
It’s an elegant, aromatic and complex Rhum.

This was a good agricole, but I somehow expected more complexity from it. Not this time, it was all suave and vegetal, but - nothing more. A bit nervous and sharp.

Visited the Dillon Distillery while vacationing in Martinique. Distillery tours were closed for the public, so got a Dillon Hors d'Age XO from a local grocery store at EUR 51 per bottle. Pretty decent old school bottle and label design. Traditional dry Rhum Agricole notes followed by grass, very strong oak and floral bouquet to your nose and palate. Very strong burn at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can add 2 points to my score.

nice colour of mahagoni wood / honey. Strong initial and complex flavor of wood, spice and vanilla. Palate opens with an intensive attack dominated by dry (cigar) wood, figs, dark chocolate, spice and vanilla. The fine finish again clearly holds the woodiness of this rhum present. Another aspect: if you keep this rhum swirling in your glass for some time the rhum clearly reveals its origin as the flavor of cane more and more overtakes the flavor notes. The wood factor nevertheless keeps dominating the palate. Have read that Dillon uses cognac Limousin oak barrels for the maturing process. This rhum is still fine after the 3rd / 4th sip. So overall a very excellent rhum Agricole from Martinique. I rate this rhum with a “9” but only with a low one, so somewhere between 8.5-9. It would be a clear/strong “9” if the rhum had an even longer lasting finish.

A beautiful rum with vanilla and woody nose. Spice notes arrive in the mouth with the wood still very present. A beautiful long finish with sugar cane that is very persistent and dry fruits. He deserved to be tasted.
