first taste and smell a bit heavy on the alc. distinct oak, as fruity as expected. sweet like dos maderas and diplomatico, but both of those rums i still prefer over this one. it's however a nice addition to my collection. at $ 46 at the airport a bargain.
First taste is sharper I would say. Ron is dryer, I can't feel any sweet fruits, maybe caramel a little bit. Prevailing taste is bitterness. I think you can enjoy it with some addendum.
Pour a glass of Carúpano Reserva Privada 21 years and you will be delighted by its dark amber colour with orange and golden glints, as well as its dense and bright texture.
7: On the nose, it gives off an intense and pleasant sensation with aromas of macerated red fruits, sultanas and dates, caramel, coconut, orange peel, tartar, wood, nuts, coffee and cinnamon.
8:On the palate it is unctuous, buttery, complex and elegant with hints of macerated fruits, coconut, coffee, spicy, tobacco and dark chocolate.
7: Finish : quite long, with toffee, some coffee, spiciness .
Quite smooth high-quality rum, oaky flavorful and a bit sweet - but not much; really enjoy it on a sniffer glass, with just a cube/ball of ice, if need be, along with a good cigar.
Have brought it as a gift to friends and colleagues in Europe, with much deserved praise once they taste it.
Very good rum, with lot of flavors. Aromas not so strong. That's why is not a 10
I didn’t get the coconut flavor so many reviews mention. The vanilla definitely came though, but seemed like it had to fight its way past a very distinct alcohol flavor. Still, it’s a very fine rum.
Got this bottle on a cruise ship ("duty free"), and was sold by the "21" and thought it would be good. Recalling my time at Rum Fest (see bio), I recall Ron Anejo as being very good, so I bought this.
In summary, not really sippable (my standard) versus others in this price range...I will not buy this again...am open to trying other Ron Anejo's as maybe better?
Carupano has a strong aroma with hints of toasted nuts. The taste is light on the front end followed by a quick punch of oak/coconut. I go back and forth between a toffee taste and toasted coconut. It is very smooth to finish. The lack of sweetness in this rum pushes me to call it slightly dry but in a good way.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
