“Inspired by Martinique traditions, Saint James Cœur de Chauffe rum is the middle cut from a double distillation in a pot still"
60% abv
Blanc agricole, notable that this doesnt have the AOC martinique geographical indication since it requires the use of column still.
Nose: phew, very strong no surprise, lots of grass, rubber, aniseed, pepper, underlying of citrus and ripe fruit, quite essential oily, very interesting, lots of spicy aromas on the nose
Palate: tongue numbing pepperiness from the high abv, palate is very briny, also lot of rubbery bitterness in the taste and lots of menthol, aniseed and licorice,
not much citrus or fruit on the taste although there is strong grassiness.
Finish: Burns and burns.
Not for me personally, the bitterness and rubberiness is bit too much and there isnt much fruit or citrus character here, this is an interesting blanc but not something i find particularly pleasing, i tried mixing this into painkiller but wasnt that impressed, need to try it again though.

On ne peut pas parler de douceur. Il faut bien le laisser s'ouvrir quelques minutes pour le déguster à sa juste valeur en ti punch

Visited the Saint James Distillery while vacationing in Martinique. Comprehensive distillery tour followed by an open tasting bar. Saint James Coeur de Chauffe was priced at EUR 12 at the distillery. Pretty decent old school bottle and label design. Traditional very dry Rhum Agricole notes followed by grass, spices, aniseed and floral bouquet to your nose and palate. Very strong burn at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can easily add 2 points to my score.
