On paper, this rum is very interessting. It’s a trinidad mix from angostura and the now legendary and unfortunately closed caroni destillery. The ratio is unknown but my geuss is that there’s very little caroni in there as neither the price or taste suggest a whole lot of caroni. Aside from bourbon ageing, it’s also finished in french sauternes casks (sweet wine). The age itself is not available.
The nose is sweet and fruity with apricot, peach, orange, vanilla and honney. Perhaps a bit of lavender as well. The sauternes finish is very apparent. The taste is sweet as well, again with the fruity notes alongside canesugar, banana and vanilla. There’s perhaps a hint of some deeper character imparted by the caroni, kinda like a subtle shade of tar, but it’s very underplayed.
This rum is on to something but it’s no where near it’s full potential. I know that at this pricepoint, there’s limit’s, but a smidge more caroni and less added sugar could perhaps have made this rum exceptional.
Nothing speciel
Nose: Sweet and fruity
Taste : Fruit, peaches, vanilla and banana. The taste is long.
A mixture of caroni and Angostura distillates.
Beautiful honey-yellow amber in the glass.
In the nose very fruity and sweet, candied citrus fruits on toasted, caramelized wood with chocolate sprinkles on top.
In the palate very sweet and elegant, chocolate with caramelized orange pieces are the dominant aromas that leave little room for the other nuances.
In the finish long after oranges and cocoa, almost sticky.
A rum that reminds me with its orange aromas strongly of the Pyrat. Unfortunately I didn't recognize the Caroni profile anywhere. A sweet tasty rum for all to do nothing. 7+
The bottles are numbered no idea how many, I have bottle number 240.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

(1. December 2018 MacY)
