Visited the Trois Rivieres distillery while vacationing in Martinique. Open tasting bar. Trois Rivieres Cuvee du Moulin was priced at EUR 40 per bottle at the distillery. Very nice and unique bottle and label design. Golden color. Traditional very dry Rhum Agricole flavors complemented with plenty of grass and oak to your nose and palate. Quite a kick at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can add 2 points to the score.

An aged rhum agricole with a delicious spicy subtlety - Trois Rivières rums will appeal to the whisky drinker and this is a great introduction to the range.

I far prefer rum from molasses, but am buying more and more Agricoles as there is something about them that I do enjoy and feel sure that if I have enough of them, that they will grow on me.

This Agricole, bought for €24 in a French supermarket, has all the typicality that you would expect of an Agricole although I find it slightly sweeter than many others - or rather that should be, less dry. The nose has a hint of peppery spiciness, almost akin to pencil shavings. There is a complexity on the pallet married to a smoothness and roundness. The oaky finish provides for a good length.

For €24 I have to consider this to be good value for money.

Nose: smells vegetal, but can't identify. Just the tiniest bit of alcohol smell. Smells grassy and fresh.
Taste: starts of with a small burn, but definitely a welcome one. Then a lot of spices, probably a lot of pepper in this one. Then some grassiness. Not sweet at all and definitely has some layers to it.
Finish: evolves into some more grassiness and pepperiness. Dry and the pepper and grass keep lingering for a long time. Almost no burn in the throat.
FInal: this is without a doubt a sipping rum. If you love agricole rums that are pretty spicy you'll absolutely love this one. Would not mix this. If you’re feeling fancy though, you might try this in an absolutely stunning Mai Tai. Also not much of a burn, so even your non-rum-loving friends will probably like this.
Notes: added 3 drops of water. Also, I'm an inexpercienced taster so the details might be inaccurate, but it's still really enjoyable for my still-developing palate.

un bon rhum assez sec mais sans trop, un bon compromis entre sec et rond
