Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
I was surprised by how sweet this was! I expected a heavier and spicier flavour due to the colour of rum but was instead overpowered by the sugar. Difficult to justify the price as although smooth, there isn't a whole lot going on underneath.
Batch #005. This is lovely and spicey. Orange, nutmeg, cloves and (not overpowering) vanilla.
Batch 003 seems to come in a fancy new long neck bottle with a wooden/synthetic cork.
Aroma is very sweet, cinnamon, orange vanilla and cloves. Taste is surprisingly smooth, but also slightly disappointingly light after those strong aromas.
The orange peel and clove spice overpower any other flavours that might be there.
Might be a good sipper for the Christmas season, depends on the final price though.
At the moment It's in some much stronger competition.
This comes from Lyme Bay Winery, although they state that is from their "Jack Ratt products".
First impressions is the nose that it is similar to Don Papa. The citrusy orangey smell. Carried through to the body that is reminiscent of orange and cloves. Medium length.
If you like a "rum" to be full of orange and cloves, this will appeal. To me it has little to do with rum. In all honesty, it could be some other flavoured spirit there is so little connection to rum.
It is smooth enough, so gets 3 rather than 2. But to me, its pretty awful. And the price...!!!! GBP38.50 - wow! Caveat emptore.
