Pyrat XO Rum is produced from nine different Caribbean rums that are blended and then aged up to 15 years in used American sweet oak barrels.
The squat Pyrat XO rum bottle shape is inspired by the typical design of rum bottles kept by pirates and ship captains in the 19th century.

This was my second rum, after Don Papa. I like it’s similar taste profile, however it’s not artificial like the Don Papa feels to me now that I’ve experienced finer rums.
Pyrat has notes of vanilla and caramel and some oak, but is still a far cry from dry rums. The profile is vey drinkable and I am looking forward to another bottle soon.
Demerara rum. Sweet taste. Citrus. Orange peel and vanilla flavor. Nice but alcohol stroke is very powerful at the beginning.
Taste cheap, synthetic orange rum. Will never buy again
This is my favourite cheap rum, it nevers fails me.
Tastes like a disinfectant with orange added after. Had high hopes but it only has looks going for it.
Mild in come and taste. A little banana up front mellowing to date at the end. Not the nicest finish. Good for mixing, but not at this price.
not very smooth. Very astringent. Weird finish..

It pains me to give this rum a 5 rating, but I would rarely drink it again. This was my favorite rum 15 years ago before they sold to Padron. The old seeded glass bottles I collected, but the current day product is heavily scented and taste of orange like a bit of Padron Citronge mixed in. Will not buy again only with drink at bar if other options Bacardi white or Captain Morgan. Not that there’s anything wrong with those two but mixing only.

A very definite hit of oranges.
"The orange taste is very much at the forefront and the burn leaves behind a bitter tang of orange peel."

A Unique rum

This rum was recommended to me by a friend as something I might and enjoy, and he wasn't far off. While not exactly what I'm looking for, it's unique and well crafted enough to earn a place on my bar. The orange that takes center stage for so many isn't as pronounced for me. Nor do I find much vanilla. I think what many describe as vanilla, I would characterize more as honey. While sweet, this rum has a dry side. I would characterize this rum as being "bright" in taste if that makes any sense. I can see how for some people this is an ideal sipper, but not my ideal. But I would take this over a lot of other offerings. For me this is more of a mixer, especially with fruit juices. And the bottle gives a nice historic flair to any bar. Now that I've finished one, I've cleaned off the labels and using it to house some Gosling's 151.
