Pyrat XO Rum is produced from nine different Caribbean rums that are blended and then aged up to 15 years in used American sweet oak barrels.
The squat Pyrat XO rum bottle shape is inspired by the typical design of rum bottles kept by pirates and ship captains in the 19th century.

Straight out of the bottle this tastes like cleaning fluids with a hint of an orange tictac. Not a good start. Leave a glass out for a while and it gets a bit better, the orange flavour gets more round and pleasant and the chemical taste gets more towards a smooth vanilla. I still wouldn't rate this among the better rums. I want a rum that doesn't take an hour to become drinkable. I have started to use it in drinks though. The dilution of sodas, mildly citrusy sodas, guarana antarctica and some energy drinks seem to even compliment it. I don't think I have tasted a more stubborn rum. It seems like it takes to much effort at first, especially when compared to other similarly priced rums, but when it works it has such potential. I think I will keep trying different things with it. At least until the bottle is empty, then we'll see if I have enough encouragement to buy it again.
Too sweet, too much citrus, a weird synthetic chemical taste.
I read the review from Chris who said that it needs time, but if I pour a glass, I want to drink it. I don't want to leave it sitting for 2 hours whilst it settles down. Maybe when I go on holiday, I'll get a shot of it and let it sit for a bit, but I can't imagine I would ever go out and buy a bottle.
In summary, if you want a nice sweet rum with more than a little character, don't get this, get a Diplomatice Reserva Exclusiva.
Artificial flavor?
Not sure, but too sweet for my taste.
My wife likes it.
Smooth with Little to no burn. Fresh with Taste of orange and Citrus. Too flat for my Taste. Great as present due to nice budda boddle. My grandfathers choice.
This rum has a back bite I have noticed in recent bottles. It normally has a buttery smoothness and finish but it seems to have a bad bite and artificial taste to it.
Cute bottle with good branding but overall not a great rum. Priced over captain and Bacardi locally but pretty equivalent.
I am very confused about the orange. It's too intensive in my opinion. I like if rum is different and unique however this is a bit too much artificial
"Had wine not been the drink of choice 2,000 or so years ago, Jesus would have probably turned every drop of water on earth into Pyrat Rum XO Reserve"

"itโs like an orange Chuck Norris came through the joint, belted out a roundhouse kick to the face..."

A very definite hit of oranges.
"The orange taste is very much at the forefront and the burn leaves behind a bitter tang of orange peel."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This stuff is usually $30 locally, but I picked up a bottle for $14. It's not bad rum, but the flavor is a bit boring. My friends all want to try it when they come to my bar because it "looks" piratey.'I won't be buying this again. There are too many better rums in the world.
