Pyrat XO Rum is produced from nine different Caribbean rums that are blended and then aged up to 15 years in used American sweet oak barrels.
The squat Pyrat XO rum bottle shape is inspired by the typical design of rum bottles kept by pirates and ship captains in the 19th century.

Flavor: orange peel, vanilla, light caramel
Texture: smooth
Finish: long, sweet, alcohol
Pale caramel color, great nose. Says it's up to 15 yes old but doesn't taste that aged.
Medium sweet, citrus, citrus, citrus...
Some may feel a small kick on the back of the throat if sipped straight but soon you won't notice anymore!
Quite fair choice in places you can't find Ron Millonario 15 or even Diplomatico reserva exclusiva...
I used to hate Pyrat. The flavor confused me and it seemed inconsistent with rums that I liked on the whole.
Like one of the comments below, I left a bottle open to breathe. It really does open up to a more complex orange and vanilla flavor than originally lets on.
At first I thought the flavors seemed forced and overdone - almost like it was too โin your faceโ with it. Now though, I find it enjoyable to sip once it breathes.
+ sweet taste, gentle flavor, price category, citrus and vanilla aroma
- for someone too much sweet, not for every occasion
This fruity rum is quite drinkable. Probably with sugar, probably full of marketing but the presentation is top notch, the taste bears caramel, vanilla, fruit, citrus... I like it.
First experienced in an out-of-town restaurant, served with a financier cake for dessert. Its orange notes complemented the rich, buttery-nutty dessert quite nicely. Purchased a bottle at home sometime later, and have been drinking it occasionally over several years. When first opened, my own bottle had what I'd call almost a waft of chlorine; other raters have describe this sensation a bit differently. On its own, the rather insipid, honey-orangey flavor can be unsatisfactory. But . . . now that the bottle has been open for a few years, currently about half full, the unpleasant qualities seem to have dissipated. I enjoy it most from a Reidel port glass, which concentrates and focuses the aromas.
Very nice rum, well priced and kept in freezer for sipping.

A very definite hit of oranges.
"The orange taste is very much at the forefront and the burn leaves behind a bitter tang of orange peel."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
