Pyrat XO Rum is produced from nine different Caribbean rums that are blended and then aged up to 15 years in used American sweet oak barrels.
The squat Pyrat XO rum bottle shape is inspired by the typical design of rum bottles kept by pirates and ship captains in the 19th century.
This is the rum for the ones who are not rum fans. It tastes almost are if it's flavored rum. When I want to taste something different, I go for that one. Only thing I would suggest is to let it breathe... I don't know what causes this, but if you just drink it the 1st time you open it, the smell is not pleasant at all.
I've bought a couple of those and know by now that it's best to let it sit, opened for around 30 minutes to an hour... let it breath in the bottle and you'll be able to enjoy it's peculiar flavour.
Grabbed a bottle on the way to Fiji hoping for a new rum experience but was not as good as I hoped but still not as bad as Bundaberg rum
I get pyrat for $22 a bottle. 1 thing I will note is that over time the flavor of this rum has changed for the worse. I remember when this rum was a lot drier and less sweet and then for the price it was a 10. I still use this as my primary bar rum but I will agree that the orange has definitely started to overpower the rum as a whole and has created a bias for my guest who then go out and try other rums.
Tail:long lasting,strong,alcohol taste
Bottle:remarkable piece of glass, very nice and interesting one with Hoti medallion
Great piece into the ba, its content is more for beginners,or anyone enjoying really sweet/orange taste rum.
This rum needs to breathe after pouring into a glass...after some while the body and tail are more acceptable.
... but many girls/womans like it very much. for me... definitely to much orange and a smell like... ähm... i don't know... may be i will give it a new chance with cocktails
I may have to reevaluate this rum in the future. I tried it tonight after drinking some a top shelf rum. This rum was harsh and the aroma was mostly alcohol. It's pretty inexpensive though so it would be good in mixed drinks.
A rating of 5 means 'easily consumable in a bind' and while I could do so I really wouldn't want to. Artificial orange is the predominant flavor. First rum with xo on the bottle I've tried I've been very disappointed with. Gave most of this bottle away.
This was the first premium rum that I tried. I liked it however I felt that there was better out there. It has a nice orange and vanilla taste. Time to try others.
I'm not a rum drinker my expertise is in vodka and gin. But I purchased
some rum just for a change of taste. I saw the Pyrat XO and thought it looked interesting. I was completely blown away, absolutely delicious. Because of Pyrat XO I am going to explore the world of rum
Smooth enough to drink alone. Just like I like it. Smells nice, not to sweet and you don't need much to be comfortably satisfied. Nice addition to my grown and sexy bar. Always straight no chasers.
I confirm I do not like spiced rum, sipping Pyrat XO.
Nose:apricot, banana, pineapple, yogurt, cardamom, nutmeg
Taste: syrup, honey, sweet, pineapple,
Finish: syrup, pineapple, yogurt
While this isn't the best rum I've ever had, it is good enough to drink straight up. So much of this is personal opinion that it's hard to truly rate something that everyone will agree on.
I read another review where the writer commented that it just needed some breathing time and then it was very good. That may be the case, what I’ve always had has been very consistent. Not “great or exceptional” but definitely above average.
Definitely a really good rum, for my personal taste the orange note is just too strong. But if you like fruity rums you'll love this one.
I don't know about this one, it's good but it has a strange taste to me.. I see this in the bars and it's top shelf but it really isn't worth it.. If you get it as a gift cool but don't go out of your way to buy this one
Many small bars and restaurants carry this and I will drink it on occasion when there is no other choice. It's ok, but I certainly wouldn't buy it for home. Might be good for mixing, but not the greatest by itself.
Somehow..when in the past with the hand blown bottle it was a much better rum. So, if you find a bottle with a stem at the bottom...and b hubble s in the glass....it is worth every sip.
This was my first rum. As I remember, it was really different, then other rums I tasted later. I dont know, if I enjoyed it, or not. Pyrat was first, so I will give him one more point, then I should give him now. There was maybe too much of orange taste.
