Ok first time I had this nectar of the gods solid 9. This was the case for several bottles. Then came Padron and it went downhill, way downhill. Sorry but I will never indulge again last purchase or two thumbs down.I think this is why you see 9 ratings and 3 ratings. Original and current crap. My review is middle road for original and current

...for the price! Definitely better than drinking the "regular" Pyrat, however, because a LOT more refined and is sippable! However, I prefer El Dorado 21, Flor di Cana 18, and Zacapa XO to this which is typically significantly less expensive...
BUT, IF you have a rum bar at home, this bottle and packaging looks so impressive on the bar, plus it is pretty tasty!

I like this rum with cigars. It is smooth, sweet and I really enjoy the finish.

Good. A sweeter slightly less orangey taste than the Pyrat XO. The flavors linger in the nose and pallet but there is no way to justify the price. Frankly the XO is every bit as good for a fraction of the price. Nice to try. Once.

This is a good enough rum. Little bit overpriced but in a great and nice bottle that looks great in the cabinet

I would never spend this much on a bottle no matter what it is. But while on vacation in the BVI's I got to have a taste of it at a tasting bar. It was smooth but tasted like an orange liquor. It tasted nothing like rum, so what's the point.

I did a blind taste test between this and the Pyrat XO, neither of which I had tried before. One smelled like an orange rum, the other like an orange liquor. This was the orange liquor. This was a little smoother than the XO, but I prefer the taste of the XO. Not much more to describe about the smell and taste other than a sweet orange liquor. A bit too orangey sweet for my liking. It's not bad, but the taste doesn't justify the price.

If you like orange liquor, I think the Clement Creole Shrubb is a far better choice.

Nevermind that the price point for this is Ridiculous with a capital R. The additive orange and almond flavors do not dramatically distinguish it from the XO product, which to me is equally insulting to good rum everywhere. I deem this "not rum."

I mean...This is not rum. It is a spiced rum. Sweet, orange liqueur.
