Pusser's British Navy Blue Label ABV40 3-Year rum

Pusser's British Navy Blue Label ABV40 3-Year

had this rum recently

Virgin Islands, British | Aged | 40% ABV

The Great British Admiralty first served rum daily to its Royal Navy sailors over 300 years ago until the ration was abolished in 1970. In 1979 Charles Tobias bought the recipe rights, formed Pusser’s Ltd. in the British Virgin Islands, and for the first time made the rum it available for public consumption.

Pusser’s British Navy rum today is the same blend of five West Indian rums as the British Admiralty issued to sailors.

Known as the “single malt of rum” Pusser’s British Navy rum is pot stilled using a similar method as that for single malt scotches, and with no artificial flavors is 100% natural.

The main characteristic that drowns out most of the rest in Pusser's British Navy is the alcohol. This is a good rum, but its strong smell of alcohol, spicy and funky taste (sometimes even too funky in my opinion) and noticeable harshness simply isn't for everyone. I like it personally, especially with ice to smooth it out or mixed, but there's other rums I would prefer to sip instead of this in almost any situation. It is very well priced though, so no reason not to try it at least once.

Demerara sugar and molasses notes with spicy finish

I was hoping this would have been closer to the Pussers 15 year old but unfortunately it's not. It has a similair smell but the taste is harsher and less refined. Maybe I'll try it in a mixed drink next time. Hopefully that'll make this more enjoyable.

First introduced to it on a night out in Plymouth, then in work drank half a pint virtually of it a nice kick different flavours, certainly one not to be wasted.

This is an interesting rum as one reads, my first impression was it reminded me of Courvoisier, a bit fruity with a little strength behind it. The finish is a bit citrus. Had to try it, will know by the end of the bottle whether I will buy again.

A flavorful rum. I wouldn't drink by itself due to the pungent flavor. Goes great in tropical drinks though. Great rum taste.

This rum is fantastic... Great taste, better neat but not a bad mixer

Well bought this on a recommendation from a friend. I usually
Mix first with ginger ale. Well I think my eyes are still Cross eyed. This stuff is strong! On the second go I put less in and it still over took the ginger ale. Not for the faint of heart but nice to have rum that has taste.

This is the main reason this rum is in my collection... one of my favorite drinks - the painkiller. Unfortunately this drink cannot be done without Pussers IMO, at least not as well. It is a rough drink on its own and a true Navy rum but, that's what a painkiller needs.

I will never be without my pussers.

It's a nice strong rum (54%). A lot of flavour. It even dominates the cola.

If this is the benchmark for "Navy Rum", then sign me up. A little spiciness to kick it into high-gear, with caramel/butterscotch, toffee, and mild hints of orange in there somewhere, Pusser's has character! Very much tolerable straight-up, this is a good drink in just about anything - citrus juices, Coke, Sprite/7-Up, you name it! Pusser's commands respect - it's got mine!
