Pusser's British Navy Blue Label ABV40 3-Year rum

Pusser's British Navy Blue Label ABV40 3-Year

Virgin Islands, British | Aged | 40% ABV

The Great British Admiralty first served rum daily to its Royal Navy sailors over 300 years ago until the ration was abolished in 1970. In 1979 Charles Tobias bought the recipe rights, formed Pusser’s Ltd. in the British Virgin Islands, and for the first time made the rum it available for public consumption.

Pusser’s British Navy rum today is the same blend of five West Indian rums as the British Admiralty issued to sailors.

Known as the “single malt of rum” Pusser’s British Navy rum is pot stilled using a similar method as that for single malt scotches, and with no artificial flavors is 100% natural.

Rhum très boisé et au goûter le caramel un peu vanillée, on sent un peu la Jamaïque. Au nez chocolat et cognac. Je m'attendais à mieux mais correct.

Let me start with this: I'm a shallow person. I "judge books by their covers", and I'm generally not ashamed to admit that. When I saw this bottle in the past, I thought the label looked cheap and cheesy, and would not have given this one a chance at all.

Thanks to RumRatings, my eyes have been opened. This site/app has allowed me to get some insight and reviews from people that have helped me to find some amazing products... AND THIS IS ONE OF THEM.

So biased opinion of packaging aside, here's what I found from this drink:

As soon as I opened the bottle, I got a wonderful aroma from it. Caramel/butterscotch, a bit of vanilla, molasses, just a hint of smokiness.

Lets talk taste, because that's what this is all really about, right?
At 84 proof, it's just a bit above what I've traditionally associated with spirits (in my experience), but I dont think that it's noticeably different in perception vs an 80 proof. I'll be trying the Gunpowder proof as soon as I can, since what I'm reading from other reviews is that this is the same product, but watered down a bit.

I really enjoy the flavor here; it seems that the navy blends I've enjoyed have a similar Guyana component that I'm exploring more in depth.

I'd still rate this one slightly behind LemonHart, but definitely will be keeping this around to enjoy.

If you like some complex flavors, not a lot of burn, and an affordable price, this is probably a good choice. I picked this up locally for $27 CAD, and will be going back to get the Gunpowder Proof ($40 CAD) soon.

Not terrible but not great. Best for making drinks like painkillers.

This is a strong rum with a bold front end that would choke a bourbon lover. I didn’t like it. Might be good for a mixer, but not on rocks or neat.

Fruity funk flavor. While not my cup of tea for a sipper it makes a damn good mixer.

I like this rum, good for price. Product of Guyana. Aroma is pleasant, caramel sweetness. Neat it's smooth, I get an indistinct caramel sweetness with some heat. While you can sip this, it's made for mixing. Very nice with ginger beer, coke. If I have to criticize, I would say lacks a little character to add something additional to the drink. With that said, a nice buy at the price. Enjoy!

Always wanted to try pussers. Passable as a sipper, 84 proof so a tad strong. Rivals Goslings in a d&s

This rum caught me off guard. I purchased it mainly as a mixer, and it works beautifully when you need a characterful rum. That said, it is eminently sippable on the rocks or neat. There's rich butterscotch, raisins, oak, and a bit of banana. Yum!

This was growing on me. Nice introduction to the navy style. Punches above it's weight with a great price-performance ratio.

Absolutely the best bargain dark rum going. If you like this one as much as I do continue your exploration by stepping up to the Gunpowder Proof offering and my personal favorite rum the incomparable Pussers 15.

What real rum tastes like AFAIC.

Typický navy rum, hutný, tmavý, s převládající intenzivní chuti karamelu.
