Pusser's British Navy ”Nelson’s Blood” 15-Year rum

Pusser's British Navy ”Nelson’s Blood” 15-Year

Virgin Islands, British | Aged | 40% ABV

Pusser’s British Navy Rum 15-Year is a blend of five rums from Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Barbados which are produced in mainly wooden pot stills. The blend is aged for 15 years.

The company derives its name from the British Navy 'Purser' who distributed a daily 'tot' of rum ration to each sailor - a tradition which lasted from 1655 until 1970. In 1979 Charles Tobias obtained the rights to blend the original recipe of the British Navy Rum.

Pusser's British Navy Rum is casually known as “Nelson’s Blood” as a nod to the famous death of Admiral Nelson. After being mortally wounded in a naval battle in 1805, Nelson’s body was preserved in a barrel of rum.

Smells of vegetal sugarcane, molasses, oak, and bourbon; the taste adds some spiciness. A little too much bourbon for my liking; I'm more of a rum fan.

und müsste mir für eine bevorstehende Schlacht Mut antrinken, dann würde mir Nelsons Blood sicher vorzüglich schmecken. Für einen Freitag Abend 2023 wars allerdings zu wenig. Zu sperrig, lantig und hart.

Tasted at Hot Joy in San Antonio. Pours classic Pussers amber, but classic ends there. Knock you down aroma of heated caramel toffee treacle on the stove. Colder aging woody notes. Lots of nuts. Such a deliciously relaxed mouthfeel. Honey sweetness to the end.

Tasted at High Joy, not far from San Antonio's Riverwalk on 2/19/23
Aroma: cedar, toffee, and nature
Flavor: smooth-drinking that starts off tasting like the inside of a terrarium smells, then blooms into a wonderland of toffee and pistachio brittle (if that is not a thing, it should be).
This is a sipper I would not spoil by mixing although I suppose if you had a vat to get rid of fast, I'd mix it with cinnamon and cold brew and cream with nutmeg atop.
A brilliant rum ❤️

Aroma is weak with some wooden tones. Taste is mainly sweet, with some vanilla and oak. Not complex. Aftertaste is short and a bit bitter.

This is a solid 8/10. Just the slightest alcohol burn. Otherwise flavorful and smooth good for sipping or in a painkiller.

I haven’t been able to find this in a store. Very smooth. Carries the classic taste of Pusser’s Rum. I’d buy it again if I could find it. Definitely one I’d keep in my rum cabinet.

Smell and tastes neat like lambs navy rum. Feet. However with a mixer it was a surprise, sweet, smooth and moreish. However it’s not a unique flavour.

A much smoother version of Pussers rum, very warming and moreish.

As a fan of navy rum, I wanted to try the old version. This is a direct comparison between the old Nelson's blood and Pussers 15.

The old Nelson's is not dark, but also not very intensive and heavy. Almost no molasses there.
I smell candle wax, apricots (wood) and some fruits like papaya, some honey. This is not a typical Navy rum, because I love dark Demeraras, I like the new one more.

The taste starts with some sweetness but not heavy. Aromas are like in a Haiti rum, more light than heavy. I get sugar cane or sugar syrup, some vanilla and wood, apricots, candle wax and musty old nuts. In the middle taste the rum develops some Demerara aromas but not very much.
The finish is not spectacular.

Completely differen rum than the new one. I don't know from wich countries this blend is. I would gues Trinidad, Guyana and Haiti.
It's not a typical Navy blend. I would rate it with 79 points. It's not bad and the rum is gently. But it's not interesting enough. I would prefer the new one.

Nose: candle wax, apricots, moldy wood, honey and a sour note
Taste: sugar cane, apricots, vanilla, some wood, candle wax, musty nuts
Middle: honey, musty walnuts, some iodine
Finish: spice, medical note, honey
Aftertaste: sugar cane, moldy wood, apricot

Sweetness: 2/5
Fruits: 2/5
Spice: 1.5/5
Mildness: 4/5
Value (89€): 2.5/5

Not as strong as I expected, but the taste is deep and powerfull. Great nose and interesting blend of Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados.
