Tasty, but not quite great

I think I like the black better, but the darker rums is where Hamilton comes in their own.
I was hoping this would make a good sipping rum, but taking straight it's pretty harsh. However when combined with a heavy Citrus offset such a straight lime juice for a daiquiri it holds up very well.

45% ABV. The same (funky, young, Worthy Park, pot-still) distillate used for Hamilton Jamaican Pot Still Gold and Black was aged for 18 months in St. Lucia rum barrels, then blended with a light WP distillate and aged another few months. No coloring or sugar was added (unlike the Gold/Black), so this rum is nearly a white wine color. I wasn't sure whether to classify this as "Light" or "Gold," as it seems to sit somewhere (uncomfortably) in the middle.
The result? Meh. The St. Lucia casks don’t seem to add very much in that small amount of time; I feel like I could achieve similar results by adding a drop of Hamilton SL rum to a pour of HPSG. I wonder if I was led astray by my expectations. It's very possible that if someone handed it to me saying "here's a great new rum for Daiquiris by reputable producers," and I didn't know what it was, I might just give it an 8. I'll need to re-try it sometime (and update my rating when I do). But for now, I’ll stick with the Pot Still Black.

Makes a fantastic Daiquiri with just lime, sugar and ice. Well balanced for subtle pot still rum. I can sip it neat and easily use it blended. Great price from my dealer. Very happy to have it available and I try to keep it on hand.
