I love Mezan rum, because you can taste rum without wall of sweetness hiding the rum.
Funny enough, this is as sweet as some mainstream rums, without anything added to it.
Which proves that you can make sweet rum if you want, without adding ton of sweetening to hide what you really made.

Still really good Mezan, just not really my prefered one.

The most interesting thing is that, the rum is unchanged. Really "untouched" - great :) The taste and smell defend itself, but an additional advantage is the label that provides a lot of information about the production. Beautiful bottle.

This is excellent. A dry, complex and well balanced rum. Very more-ish! Long lingering finish, great flavours. I was pleasantly surprised because it's not too expensive.

Quite light in colour.
A wonderful, if slightly muted nose, of oak and vanilla, and a hint of citrus.
The official tasting not brings in fudge, cinnamon, nutmeg with a finish having touches of orange peel, tobacco and green capsicum spice. I would broadly agree with that, especially the orange peel (not to be even put in the same category as Pyrat XO!!). It's a really unctuous rum that coats the tongue in velvety fruit with hints of oaky smokiness.

This almost reminds me of (or rather there are some hints of) the Abuelo XV Oloroso, a rum that I really, really didn't like. Even though it comes from a different distillery, the orange peel fruit of the Mezan, is like a VERY muted version of the Oloroso, and what the Abuelo could and should have been, rather than the horrendous sickly sweet offering they produced.

Wonderful fruit and complexity from a 10yo.

The other interesting aspect is the bottling strength which is 46%. The first Mezan Panama I had was the 1995 at 42%, then it went down to 40% and now is at 46%. I liked 42%, thought that 40% was missing something, so am pleased with the 46%. I always drink my rums straight up, and some rums at 46% have an edge that I find a little harsh. However, this one is so smooth and easy, and Mezan should be applauded for bottling at 46% when commercially, they could probably charge pretty much the same if they had bottled at 40%

Mezan Panamanian offerings are pretty consistent to my tastes. Some are better than others, and this one is to me their best bottling and pretty much Rum perfection. Absolutely what I look for.

And what makes it a 10 (IMO of course) is that it has one of the best finishes of any rum I have ever had.
