A pretty decent spiced rum

Since I first tried their white rum and was quite impressed with it, I gave this spiced rum of theirs a try. It is really quite a challenge to find a good spiced rum because Captain Morgan has forever ruined their image by associating it with drunken frat boys. And yes it is true that most spiced rums are really just strong flavors to cover up poor quality rum. This is not the case here.
On the aroma, I can easily detect the freshly distilled sugar cane juice found in their white rum. On the palate, it is pepper, vanilla, and cinnamon with not much else. Very little burn goes down the pipe. I was hoping for something more complex such as what can be found in Brinley Gold Shipwreck Spiced, Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced, or El Dorado Spiced. But those are Caribbean rums and this one is a Louisiana rum and the spices differ quite a bit. This is a lot better than many of the other spiced rums that pass themselves off as something good, but it is not the best spiced rum that I have found so far. This is a high quality rum at $28 and the master distiller's signature once again graces the side of the bottle.
