Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary

Multiple | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.

The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

First impression - beautiful bottle, stylish stopper, great visual communication.
Things are becoming much better when you tasting it: very round and complex taste, at first sweet with notes of vanillia and sugar than more dry with hint of tobacco and coconut. 10/10 for its price, overall 9/10

Light bodied, balanced and sweet. It's not the most nuanced rum out there but for easy enjoyment it's hard to beat.

This was one of my first rums so I wasn't sure what to expect, so I waited until I had tried about 20 different rums before rating any of them. This rum is similar to Zacapa 23 and Matusalem 23. They're all fairly sweet, and not too exciting, but all solid rum values in my opinion. A good beginner rum, easily sippable, but not anything special. As of my writing this review the overall rating is 8.4, which is way too high for a rum that tastes this ordinary. Also, the price has gone up since I bought it, and there's other alternatives for the same price or less that are much better rums. Zafra 21, Santa Teresa 1796, and Pasador de Oro Gran Reserva all have more character, taste better, and cost about the same or less than this one where I live.

The more I get into the rum culture, the more I understand that this community knows about rums just as much as I know about astro physics, hence the high rating of this THING.
A slightly better than Captain Morgan Spiced, with A LOT of added sugar it doesn't justify it's price in any way.
Yes, it looks like premium spirit due to the nice bottle and packaging, but you could (and you should) easily find a REAL RUM for the same money.
PS. The friends of my wife loved it, apparently lol.

Sweet and one dimensional, taste like a bad bourbon.

This rum is amazing! It's silky smooth, properly sweet, and absolutely delicious! Plantation products have always been good, but this is the best one I've ever had. It's only rivals are the very sherried Diplomatico Ambassador, Appleton's 20+ year products and the extremely exclusive Ron Del Barrilito Four and Five Star, at least, that I've tried. It's got caramel, cinnamon and light vanilla for days and it is dangerous!

It just became available in my neck of the woods and I am DEFINITELY buying a couple more as soon as possible. It, unlike the other aforementioned products is EXTREMELY affordable! While Appleton's old aged rums reach the $100-200+ mark, Diplomatico's Ambassador is typically around $300 and for the "Top" Ron Del Barrilito experience, you're looking at close to a grand. This Plantation expression is about $50! If you see it, buy it, immediately! You will NOT be sorry!

The only negative that I can pretend to give this product is that the nose (after resting) loses some of its original aroma and the alcohol smell comes through. That's it! As I don't put nearly as much care into the smell as the taste, I give this rum a 9.75/10, which rounds up to a perfect score...AND, IT'S CHEAP!!!

Bought this to serve to guests (for sipping/mixing).
Price is around 40€ and it came with two glasses.
The bottle is heavy and has a nice look, although the cap is wood on the outside, but plastic on the inside (see photo).
A blended drink. No note of how old it is; the number 20 looks misleading in a nice way lol.
Taste of cola and black pepper. No burn, no bad aftertaste.
40% alc. content, but tastes weak, like it has added water, so I’m afraid it will lose flavor and evaporate with time. No note as of contents (I’m thinking artificial aromas).
Will serve my purpose to be served to guests.

Used to be my main rum but it’s an expensive habit, very well rounded and balanced. No brainer if you can find it
