Multiple | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.

The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

To me this is a true sipping rum. Soft, sweet aroma of graham crackers and cinammon. Hints of vanilla and caramel. Complex yet very soft aroma. It's full medium sweet upfront and warming. Graham cracker carries through in the flavor as do the hints of vanilla. Oak is apparent but smooth. Warming but not at all hot. Nice finish, drying and warm. A really great sipping rum! Purists may not like this one but judge it for what it is. It's good! I'll be keeping a spare bottle of this at all times!

Sept. 2019 - Revisited this rum recently and still find it highly enjoyable. Although I find myself gravitating towards less sweet rums recently I still found this an excellent drink, well balanced and complex. Smooth and easy sipping. I would possibly rate this 1 point lower if trying for the first time but I leave my rating unchanged as I still think it's very worthy. Again this is not a rum for dry rum drinkers or purists but as I said before, it is what it is and I think it's well deserving of it's high rating.

I don’t have all that many rums to compare to and not as refined a taste as a lot of others, but I love the complexity. The taste evolves in your mouth as you drink it. My only gripe is that after a moment there’s a burning sensation on the tongue. Not so bad that it‘d really take away from the greatness, but more something to be aware of on the finish.

EDIT: Having tasted a lot more rums at this point I'm feeling a little differently about this now. I'm changing my original 9 to a 7. I still think it's a great tasting rum with a flavor that evolves in your mouth while you drink it, but I've found an offering at a lower price that has this one beat in every category: Mount Gay XO. So on taste alone I'd still give it an 8.5, but the fact that it has as much sugar added to it as the EU allows I find a little disappointing. It's not like Plantation simply cannot manage to bottle something good without sugar (OFTD) or even something good with a little sugar (3 Stars), but for a 20th Anniversary edition I was kind of hoping for something that celebrates the art of rum making a little more than the art of adding sugar. I do understand that dosage is part of the philosophy of Plantation, but adding the maximum legal amount is not what I'd consider tasteful. So my final rating is 6.5, rounding up to a 7 here, as I still enjoy it as a dessert in a glass.

This is the best of their core lineup and is very reasonably priced for what you are getting here. Leaving some room at the top for the limited releases, but I can see this being a 10 for many people and I wouldn't argue.

Guter Rum der sich vom Preis her sehr gut bewährt. Ist süss und Fruchtig. Persönlich wird er schnell langweilig.

Always on my shelf, this was one of the very first rums I tried. Great taste. Vanilla, grapes, caramel and green ripe fruits.

Another of my favorites very smooth, attended a rum seminar in Coral Gables, Florida; met and spoke and with the Proprietor and CEO a really nice and sociable French National.

You will be hard pressed to find a rum this good and a price even close to this. Buy two bottles. Excellent from start to finish

I first tried this rum alongside El Dorado 15 and Santa Teresa 1796. I might have rated this a 9 instead of an 8, were it not for it failing to shine against the other two.

It had a very similar flavour profile to the Santa Teresa 1796, but I felt it didn't have as much body and character. The nose wasn't quite as inviting either.

Nonetheless, it is a very enjoyable sipping rum and I would perhaps buy it again if it was on offer.

Smooth and a little sweet. You can definitely taste the oak from the barrel aging. Notes of caramel, brown sugar, and molasses. I enjoyed this bottle.

Great bang for your buck here! Great balance of complexity, sweetness and smoothness. Goes down fast and easy. I would love to see more special casks come out of Plantation to see what they can do, but this is really nice for the price
